Transferring desk top to new devise

Which QB Desktop year version?

The migration tool is not reliable. Consider to run the installer file on your new machine and restore the backup file on it.

Transferring desk top to new devise

I understand how frustrating it can be when you encounter difficulties while transferring your desktop to a new device, @Clearviewwest. I'm here to help you find a solution.

When it comes to transferring QuickBooks using the Migrator Tool, there could be a few reasons why the second computer is not recognizing the password from the first computer. Let's explore some possible solutions together.

Firstly, ensure that you are using the correct password when attempting to transfer QuickBooks. Double-check for any typos or capitalization errors, as passwords are case-sensitive. If you're certain that the password is correct, let's move on to the next step.

If the problem persists, it's helpful to reset the password on the first computer before attempting the transfer once more. This can be done by clicking on the I forgot my password option then entering all the required information and following the succeeding prompts.

Alternatively, you can utilize the Automated Password Reset Tool to reset your QuickBooks Admin password and access your company file. And I'd be glad to show you how:

  1. Download the Automated password tool for QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Enter the QuickBooks license number and business information that you provided during the QuickBooks registration process, and then click on the Next button.
If you get a message that says the details you've provided don't match, login to your Intuit account at https://camps.intuit.com. Ensure that the following are correct and must match the info in our system.
    • Authorized user's name and email address (name is not case-sensitive)
    • Primary Mailing address (especially zip code)
    • License number (under Products and Services; doesn't need a dash)
    • Phone number (under Account Details)
  3. Agree to the license agreement. The Automated Password Reset tool will automatically start downloading. (If the automatic download did not work, choose Download now.)
  4. Run the Automated Password Reset tool and then enter the token number received via email.
  5. Choose the same QuickBooks version from the QuickBooks Desktop Products drop-down.
  6. Browse for Company file then select the file you want to reset the password for. Ensure to enter the correct Company File Admin Unser Name if it's different from the "Admin".
  7. Enter your new password then confirm. Note that this is only a temporary password as QuickBooks will ask you to change it again when opening the company file.
  8. Hit Reset Password to complete the process.

Furthermore, I have an article that can assist you in understanding which elements are transferred and which ones are not when moving a QuickBooks Desktop company file to a different computer: Move or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to another computer. Just scroll down and click on the What gets copied dropdown button.

Remember, technology can sometimes be challenging and we're here to make your business processes easier for you. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance accessing QuickBooks Desktop on a new computer, please don't hesitate to notify us. Keep safe.
