We are still using Premier Contract 2018. We also use a routing program that communicates with QB. The reason we haven't upgraded QB is that the routing program won't communicate with any newer versions of QB. Our routing program sunset updates 4-5 years ago, they are sunsetting all support later this year, so they are trying to push all of their customers to their new, cloud-based, software. This isn't possible for us to do right now, we are a landscape company and are in season, so we can't convert over to anything new until the winter, which is what we are planning on doing.
The routing program company is telling us that we need to upgrade our routing program now because QB is pushing out a forced update in June and the two programs will no longer communicate. Both programs are stand-alone programs on the office computers and their data is stored on our server. We use no cloud-based third party apps, QB is well outside of the support window, so how could a forced update be happening? If anyone has any knowledge of this, it would be greatly appreciated.

QBD 2018 is outdated since last May. Are you sure not using QBD 2019 at this time?
If you're still using QBD 2018, I'm not sure how other apps (e.g. your routing program) connect to it without an active web connector, unless the app runs on your local machine to import the data manually.
Thanks for sharing your concern in the QuickBooks Community page, @grasshopper91.
Allow me to join in and share further details about the service discontinuation policy in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
As mentioned by Fiat Lux - ASIA, as of May 31, 2021, access to add-on services will be discontinued for QBDT for Windows 2018. This includes all versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, and Enterprise Solutions v18.
If you're using third-party add-ons (routing programs), I'd suggest getting in touch with them. They can provide you with further details about the update they're referring to.

@ReymondO, thank you for the information. So, to confirm, even if we don't run any sort of updates to our desktop version of Premier Contractors 2018, we will still lose communication capabilities with our routing program?
Thank you!
@Fiat Lux - ASIA Yes, we are still using 18. There is no web connecting at all. Both are individually installed programs on our office computers and the data is stored on our server. We need no internet access to be able to use the programs. We haven't gone to any online versions of QB or routing software because we live out in the country, and until recently, service is spotty in about half the county.
I'll share some information about your concern, @grasshopper91.
Yes, QBDT Premier Contractor 2018 was discontinued last May. Your product will continue to work for you, but you won't be able to subscribe to live technical support or any other Intuit services that can integrate with QuickBooks Desktop. The discontinued versions won't receive the latest security patches and updates.
