Buy nowI just installed quickbooks for Mac desktop (2024).
I want to load a company that was using QB for Mac 2019.
When I open the .qb2019 file it appears to convert it fine but then it asks for Administrator Password.
I don't think I had one back in 2019 and when I enter the Administrator password that I have set it does not like it.
The Mac that it was on is long gone and all I have is the .qb2019 file.
Any suggestions on how I can do this?
Hi there,
I understand that you are trying to upgrade from QuickBooks for Mac 2019 to QuickBooks for Mac 2024 and are encountering an issue with the admin login in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. Allow me to help so you can access your company file in the new version.
If you forgot to set or forgot the password for your admin access, you can easily reset your admin password.
Here's how:
I've also added this article if you have a non-admin user who also needs to reset a password: Reset your password for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Let me know if you still need assistance or have other concerns about managing users and logins. I'll be happy to help.
Another option, purchase a 3rd party password removal service.
I tried that. Since I am using an evaluation of QB2024 for Mac I don't have a license key and that is required to reset the password.
Thanks for reaching out to us, @vintageslots. Allow me to route you in the right direction so you can reset your password in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Mac.
I appreciate you for following the steps provided by my colleague above. Since the Community is a public forum, I recommend reaching out to our customer support team. They are equipped with the necessary tools to reset your QBDT administrator password on your behalf. To do that:
Moreover, you can use the multiuser mode in QBDT Mac to let multiple users work on a company file simultaneously from different workstations.

Have you tried to open your file on QB Desktop 2019?
I contacted quickBooks support via phone.
They were less than helpful.
I no longer have the computer which had QB2019. I asked them if I could at least install a trial version of QB2019. They said no.
After the call I did a quick google of "quickbooks 2019 download" and was immediately taken to the Intuit site which allowed me to download it.
It still did not allow me to open the file. After some more googling I found a tool that would analyze the quickbooks 2019 data file and pull out the password.
I tried it and it WORKED!!!!
I now have full access to the company file and can now import it into QB 2024 for Mac desktop.
Thanks a lot Intuit Support. You clearly could have helped me but didn't.
I am very tempted to cancel my online subscription, not purchase QB 2024 for Mac and export the data files and find another solution.
Why don't you purchase a QB Desktop 2024 license as a next step? Unless you are looking for a cheaper option.
