Use of Accountants Copy when my client no longer has a QB license

My client no longer has a QuickBooks license but would like me to do the tax returns. Will the Send Company File Accountants Copy still work?  And will they be able to update their books once the file is returned to them/

Ensuring your client can send an Accountant copy is beneficial for on-time tax returns filing, BB90049. I'm here to provide details about this, depending on their subscription.

First, I'd like to know what you mean by the license no longer working. Is your client's license an unsupported version (2021-lower)? Or are they using the expired subscription-based license?

If your client has a one-time license, they can still send an Accountant's copy and import the changes. However, they'll need to ensure their QuickBooks version matches yours. For example, if your client has QuickBooks Desktop Premier 2021, you need QuickBooks Desktop Accountant 2021 to open the file.

When sending a copy, they have two ways to achieve this. They can send it manually (a USB drive, email attachment, or shared through a cloud service like Box) or use the Accountant's Copy File Transfer Service to share a file through the web. For more details about sending a copy, I suggest sharing these articles with your client:

If they have an expired subscription-based license, your client can no longer send the Accountant's copy nor import the changes. They'll need to renew their plan first before sending the file. It's also important to ensure both your QuickBooks versions match.

Additionally, I'll be sharing these resources to help your client fix various errors and unexpected results when creating an Accountant’s copy or importing the changes:

Please let me know if you have additional questions about working on the client's file or filing taxes. This thread is always open to cater to all your inquiries and concerns.
