Vendor pdf attachments

I recently switched my QB desktop to a new computer.  I backed up my QB file to an external drive before I moved to the new computer.  I noticed that my pdf attachments are no longer on my vendor file.  How do I get my pdf attachments back for my vendors?  I have hundreds of vendors and would hate to have to scan and attach all of those documents

Hello, kimichap.

Let me share some insight as to why the attached document you've backed up is missing.

At this time, QuickBooks backup functionality does not include Attached Documents. We advise our users to manually back up the Attach folder, which can be found in the same location as your QuickBooks company file.

In your situation, I suggest you paste the Attach folder into the same location as your restored company file. This should ensure that all the relevant attachments are available and accessible for your records.

Here's how:

  1. Open the location where your company file is stored and open the Attach folder.
  2. Open the folder with the OLD company file name.
  3. Copy and paste the Inbox folder's contents into the folder's Inbox sub-folder with the new company file name.
  4. Copy and paste the contents of the Txn folder into the Txn sub-folder of the folder with the new company name.
  5. From the QuickBooks Company menu, select Documents, then Repair Attached Documents Links.
  6. Select Repair Links.

I found this helpful article that might be able to help you out. It discusses what to do if your attached documents go missing in QuickBooks Desktop:  QuickBooks Document Center: FAQs and common issues

@kimichap,

QuickBooks stores the attachment files in a separate subfolder called 'Attach' within the same folder of the QBW file.

  • From the original computer find the Attach folder in the same folder as the QB company file.
  • Within the Attach folder there would be a subfolder with the same name as your QBW file.
  • You need to copy that folder (including all its subfolders) to the new computer.
  • On the new computer, in the folder where you placed the QBW file, create a new folder 'Attach'.
  • Paste the folder you copied in there.
  • It is crucial that the subfolder in the 'Attach' folder is named identical to the QBW file (in case you renamed the QBW file.)
  • Then go to any transaction where attachments are possible.
  • Click Attach File > Doc Center > Files Missing? > Repair Links.
  • Attachments should now be there again.

Let me know if this helps.

WOOHOO, IT WORKED!!  I went to the old computer and opened the old QB app, went to the company file, and found the attach folder.  I copied that folder to my external hard drive and then I went to my new computer and opened QB company file and copied the attach folder to the current attach folder, and opened.  I then went to doc center and clicked missing files? and clicked repair and voila I have my vendor attachments back!  Thank you, thank you!
