What is the Payroll Service Customer Asset account?

I've been using Quickbooks for over 10 years and using their Quickbooks Payroll Service.

I have an account in my chart of accounts named "Payroll Service Customer Asset", the account seems to have been created by either Quickbooks or by Quickbooks Payroll Service.

There are two entries in the account that were added by the Quickbooks Payroll Service, when running payroll.  The entries and their amounts are not relevant, but I cannot find an explanation of why they were added.  The account shows up in our balance sheet.

I'm hoping someone can tell me what this account is, and when are entries added to it.

What is the Payroll Service Customer Asset account?

I appreciate your loyalty to QuickBooks, @gholmann. I'm here to share more insights about the Payroll Service Customer Asset account.

The Payroll Service Customer Asset account is used for tracking or clearing tax credits in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Altering the wages or taxes may generate a tax credit (an overpayment) that'll be applied to your future payrolls. You can check out this article for more hints about clearing balances in this account: Record tax credits to QuickBooks affecting reports and asset accounts.

On the other hand, if you notice irrelevant records under this account, you may contact support to look into your account and verify this further.

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Continue.
  5. Choose a way to connect with support.

For your convenience, you can reach out to them during their business hours. Check out the details here: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.

On the other hand, you can get more hints while working with your payroll entries in the future by browsing the topics from this link: QBDT help articles.

It's my pleasure to share these details with you today. If you have follow-up questions about your accounts, let me know by leaving a comment below. I'm always here to help. Have a great weekend!
