Hello, @jamesalot.
I'm here to help and address your concern right away about creating a sub-customer.
Yes, this process is available in both QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online either new or old versions. However, adding a sub-customer is equivalent to Job costing in QBDT.
Here’s the answer to your concern by following your format:

For QuickBooks plus desktop 2022 and newer - YES
For QuickBooks premier desktop 2021 and older - YES
For QuickBooks premier desktop 2021 and new - YES
All QuickBooks online applications - YES

I’m always ready to assist you if you have any other questions or concerns about managing your customer profiles. Tag me in your reply and I’ll sprint back into action. Have a good one, and keep safe.

Other wise I would not be looking to change quickbooks to get the sub customer option. I can not do with jobs what I've seen can be done with sub customers. People have even said many times in these forums they don't work the same and that sub customer option is superior
