I own a small landscape company. It is just a single-member LLC (which would lead me to QB self-employed) But I'm hoping to hire a W-2 employee this year and do payroll. QB online seems way more complex than QB Self employed which ive used in the past. I have a separate software (not QB) that I use for scheduling, billing and taking online payments. Would it be easier to do QB Self Employed until I for sure plan to hire on an employee?

You can not transfer transactions from QBSE to QBO or QBDT
QBSE is NOT for your type of business, it is for the most simple of consultants.
QBO looks harder because you will finally be doing accounting instead of bookkeeping.
QBSE does not allow for any new accounts (categories) to be created
QBSE does not have sales receipts, only invoices
QBSE does not allow for journal entries
QBSE does not have the class function
QBSE does not do recurring transactions
QBSE does not keep a customer or job listing
QBSE does not have a balance sheet so you can not enter the cost or the depreciation for a car/equipment
QBSE does not do inventory or cost of goods sold
QBSE can not do payroll
QBSE does not do any associated IRS forms, like home office deductions or depreciation
QBSE will not accept a banking file formatted as .qbo (a standard intuit type of file)
QBSE does not do sales tax either (not schedule C related but critical to a business)
In a nutshell, Intuit's QuickBooks Self-Employed product is designed for sole proprietorships, and it really only works for sole proprietors (or LLCs taxed as sole proprietorships). To understand why all this is the case, we'll need to first explain what a sole proprietorship is if you're not already familiar.
Great response. Thanks for sharing.
