Why does Intuit keep changing my settings and preferences?

I was notified early last week that Intuit had removed the automatic function of attaching a PDF to the invoice when sent by email.  I was also informed that I could enable that in settings.

I went to Settings, Account and Settings, Sales, Online Delivery and turned the option for PDF on for Invoices.

Today, while invoicing, I am AGAIN notified that the setting has been changed and that I must do it all over again.

WHY?

Leave well enough alone!  We pay good money every month for this product and we are bombarded with advertising and changes that DO NOTHING for us, the users and subscribers.  Be respectful of our status as YOUR CUSTOMER!

Why does Intuit keep changing my settings and preferences?

You list at least two reasons why QB Desktop is better than QB Online.  Intuit won't randomly change your settings on Desktop - and there aren't nearly as many adds.

Why does Intuit keep changing my settings and preferences?

I hear your sentiments. Know that this isn't the experience we want you to encounter. However, it seems to be working well here from what I can see here on my end.

That being the case, we can perform basic troubleshooting steps to see if it's a browser issue. Sometimes your browser's cache and cookies become corrupted, causing problems when accessing websites or opening files. To begin, open your QBO account in an incognito window. It will prevent the browser history from being saved. Please refer to the following keyboard shortcuts based on your browser type:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If the private browsing session works, you can clear the browser's cache so the system can restart. This task is also possible in other supported, up-to-date browsers. Clearing the cache will reboot the system, allowing you to work with clearing the cache. It will also help you get rid of any junk files that might be slowing down your work.

Why does Intuit keep changing my settings and preferences?

Your answer is not what the questioner was asking.  I too have the same problem.  I have set in my company preferences that invoices as pdf's be attached to customers emails. I was notified last month by a customer that they had not received the pdf of their invoice with the invoice email, so I had to send it separately.  I looked at the company settings and notice that the "Email Options for Sales Form" had the Invoices box unchecked (why, I don't know), so I checked it.  Today, I got the attached message when I started to create a new invoice:

To get your invoice paid faster, we removed PDFs from emails

Customers can download the PDF when they go to pay the invoice. To reattach PDFs to emails, go to Settings, Sales, then Online Delivery.

Why... why?!?!
Please stop messing with our settings!!! Our customers expect to receive PDF copies of their invoices when we email them through Intuit/Quickbooks invoicing.  We are an information security company and are constantly harping on our customers not to click on links in emails, IT IS DANGEROUS TO DO SO!!!  We look bad when we send an email using Intuit/Quickbooks that expects them to click on a link to receive what we've promised them we wouldn't do.

Please address this issue!!!

Why does Intuit keep changing my settings and preferences?

Thanks for getting involved with this thread, j0yfulone. I appreciate your detailed information.

I can certainly understand how an option to keep your invoice PDF attachment settings from changing could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Gear icon, then go to Feedback.
  2. Enter your suggestion(s) in the Have feedback? window.
  3. If necessary, attach a file with your Camera icon.
  4. Select Next.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.

For the time being, you can follow our presented workaround which was mentioned in the message you encountered and covers how to turn your PDF attachment setting back on.

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a wonderful Friday!

Why does Intuit keep changing my settings and preferences?

Related:  We had set up our QBO instance with PDF attachments being sent with invoice emails.  After years of use, Intuit changed that setting automatically during the middle of the day today, and some of our invoices were not sent with PDF attachments.

This behavior has been an issue that has persisted for years amongst QBO customers if you read the message community forum.  It keeps happening.  It's not a bug.  It is a feature.  It is intentional.

Since no one is getting to the root cause of why this automatic setting change is happening, I'll ask the important question: why would Intuit do such a thing?

To preempt any Intuit customer service rep replying with canned jargon that isn't true, I will answer my own question: without a PDF being attached, the only way our customers can get more details about our invoice is to click a link in the email (if their mail software doesn't automatically remove it!!!), which directs them to a payment page.  Yes, they can download a PDF of the invoice via the payment page (via a tiny "download icon" without description), but the purpose of the page available via the emailed link is to cause our customers to pay our invoices using a payment service provided to them by Intuit ... which most certainly is to Intuit's financial benefit.

WHO AT INTUIT THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA?

People are creatures of habit.  Changes to how our customers see our invoices causes needless unrest.  Whomever at Intuit thought this was a good idea obviously doesn't realize that some companies intentionally configure their mail clients to REMOVE ALL HYPERLINKS FROM EMAILS.  If a QBO customer sends a "link to our payment processing system" invoice emails to a customer that has a "remove all hyperlinks" email configuration, how does the customer of the QBO customer receive the invoice?  Answer: they don't, at least not without additional actions being taken by both parties that they didn't have to take before Intuit decided it was time to mess around with a QBO feature that was working just fine beforehand.  More burden will necessarily be borne by the QBO customer--thereby devaluing the value of QBO (whilst Intuit seems to think the value of QBO should increase every few months these days).

This change will affect the way QBO customers get paid.  Payments will be delayed.  Customers of QBO customers may not make payments at all because they are confused due to a change in workflow, or because QBO has suddenly become non-compliant with their entrenched workflows that may not be able to be changed.  All for no good reason, other than that Intuit may collect a couple of basis points on payments.  Is Intuit interested in customers continuing to pay for QBO, or are they just interested in shareholders buying stock?Stock of a company without customers is worthless.  Just ask 23andMe.

To quote Dave Chappelle: "Don't ever get between a man and his meal."  If this surprise change causes delays in payments made to QBO customers, or causes payments to not be made at all to QBO customers, and those companies run into cash flow issues ... what happens then?  Who is to blame?

If Intuit is intent getting in on the payment processing game, it is its prerogative to do so, but it is entirely irresponsible for Intuit to make this type of change automatically.  It is wholly reckless, at the expense of QBO customers, for Intuit to wedge themselves into the process of our customers paying us, no matter what Intuit's cut of payments processed is or will be.  A far better idea: Intuit should develop a compelling reason for QBO customers to rely on Intuit as a payment processor and upsell us accordingly.  There's no need to force-feed a feature to us that we didn't ask for to our potential detriment.
