Why isn't the password fillable on Online Banking?

I use QuickBooks Desktop for MAC 2020. Many months ago I updated MAC OSX and QuickBooks changed at that same time.  The Online Banking changed and to access my Chase credit card account there was a new way to login in.

It works, but the problem is that I get logged out approximately every 2 weeks.  So I have to login again. But here is the kicker, when going to login (screenshot below) there is no way to have my MAC enter the password for me. So I have to go manually find the password to copy it, then paste it into the box.

I liked it better the old way in which it stayed logged in indefinitely.  I hate that it automatically logs me out every couple weeks.  And I hate even more that this is the one instance in which Apple's built-in password manager can't enter a password.

Hi, Electrician. I appreciate you reaching out today. I'm here to take care of your online banking concern with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.

When signing in to your bank, you should be able to enter both the username and password. Since the Password field is not fillable, I suggest performing some troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue.

First, run the verify and rebuild tool. The process will help you fix common data issues in your file that may affect the behavior you're getting.

  1. Select File, then select Utilities.
  2. Select Verify Data, then select OK to close all windows. If you see “Your data has failed the integrity check” you need to rebuild your file. If there are no problems with your data, you’re done.

To rebuild your company file data:

  1. Select Rebuild Data from the Utilities menu.
  2. QuickBooks will ask you to make a backup before rebuilding your company file, select OK. If you don’t want to do a backup, select Cancel to continue rebuilding your company file.
    • If you haven’t set up any backup preferences, QuickBooks will ask you to update them. Select Backup Preferences and edit as needed, then select OK.
    • When the backup's finished, select Show in Finder to locate the backup or select OK if you’re done.
  3. Hit OK when finished.

This material will also give you detailed instructions: Verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

You can also update your software to get the latest features and fixes.

I'm more than happy to help if you have any other QuickBooks questions. Just leave a comment below. Keep safe!

Why isn't the password fillable on Online Banking?

Hi Angelyn,

I verified and rebuilt my data.

I think that this isn't an issue with my software, I believe it is just the way this version of QuickBooks was written. I am willing to bet that this version of QuickBooks automatically logs me out of my Chase account on a set interval, no?

Second, I believe that it is QuickBooks fault that OSX can't enter a password into their login screen (the screenshot above).  It's not a bug, it's just the way it is, and I would like to make someone aware who can fix it.

That's a "One Intuit ID" login (OII). The financial institutions (banks/credit card companies/etc) have changed how the data is accessed and require that it be hosted in a browser window (in this case it's one hosted by the application). I don't think its permitted by the banks to save the password.

That sounds odd, especially considering the fact that I could use the Apple password manager to enter my Intuit login credentials through a browser as well as my banking login credentials through a browser.

if this is true, it’s the opposite of security. I will be forced to change my 24 character secure password to something short and easy to remember so I can manually type it in all the time.

This is an embedded browser window - it doesn't have all the functions of Safari. It may be possible to "hydrate" the browser window with your already entered OII information... I'll ask.

The engineer's response is that it should retain your log in info as long as you revisit it within two weeks.  If you are using it less frequently then that you'll have to log in.  Is that consistent with what you are seeing?

Thank you for the help. But no, it’s actually quite the opposite. I use online banking every morning without fail. I get logged out approximately every two weeks even though I have used online banking over a dozen times during that period.

Why isn't the password fillable on Online Banking?

I took he screenshot that I put in the opening post of this thread 2 weeks ago when it last asked me for my password.  I have logged into Online Banking each and every day since.  This morning, exactly 2 weeks later, it asked me to login again.

So it's not asking people to login if they haven't logged in in 2 weeks.  It is asking people to login every 2 weeks even if they logged in the day before and every other day.

And of course, I was not able to fill my password into the box like in every other situation, so I had to go find the long password again.

And again, exactly 2 weeks later I have to sign in again. Why?  And more importantly, why is this the only thing that I have ever seen that won't allow my MAC to fill in the password?
