ACH Online Payment Error

Hi there,

When paying an invoice I have received from a vendor using the ACH option the system is not accepting my bank account number. However, if I drop a digit in the middle of the account number, it is accepted. I have been told that this is an internal error with Intuit but I am hoping that someone can give me a better answer. The account number is 9 digits long and then 8 digits after removing a digit. My bank has called and QBO has assured them that it is not a bank issue but an Intuit issue.

Any help is appreciated.

ACH Online Payment Error

Hi there, sydney. I understand that you are trying to pay the bill from your vendor. I can provide you with steps for adding your bank account number.

To successfully add it, please ensure your bank is supported with QuickBooks Online. Keep in mind that QuickBooks Bill Pay only supports US banks.

If your bank is supported by QuickBooks, try doing some troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. Sometimes, QuickBooks may not function correctly due to browser issues.

We can solve this by accessing your QBO account using a private browser. Follow these steps:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If this resolves the issue, return to your regular browser and clear your browsing history to start fresh. If not, you can use a different supported browser.

If you're still having trouble adding it after troubleshooting the browser, I'd recommend reaching out to our contact support for further help.

@sydney541

You need to pay a bill to a vendor with ACH, correct? You can try a workaround.

ACH Online Payment Error

I was hoping to utilize the ACH payment type and receive some form of resolution to an issue that is coming from an Intuit service. I have spent hours on the phone with support and have not received any useful troubleshooting or reasoning behind the error. That is why I find myself here now to see if anyone else has run into this issue.

Thank you for the recommendation however, I still found the same payment error. Are you aware of any parameters for the length of account numbers that can be used or if banks that support QBO have to be setup specifically to use account numbers of a certain length?

ACH Online Payment Error

Allow me to share the information about the parameters for the length of account numbers when setting up ACH payment for your vendors, sydney541.

The parameters for the account number that you can enter when setting up ACH payments for your vendors typically range from five to seventeen digits. Please note that QuickBooks only supports US banks.

Also, I would advise getting in touch with your payment service provider for the same payment error. For the QuickBooks Bill Pay Support Team, contact them via the Help panel. They are closed on Saturdays and Sundays and open from 6 AM to 6 PM PT on weekdays. If you're using Bill Pay, you may contact the Melio Support Team. They can assist you in resolving the payment error and offer you some troubleshooting advice.

ACH Online Payment Error

@JoesemM So if I am making an ACH payment using an account number that is 9 digits long then there should be no issue?

Again, the bank where the ACH account is held has contacted QBO on their own and were told that this is an internal issue with Intuit. I'm not trying to use a work around at the moment, I am hoping someone can give me an answer as to why an active and open checking account with the correct routing and account number cannot be used to make a payment.
