I am applying a credit to an invoice and I cannot specify the date to apply the credit. This causes the credit to be applied in the wrong month, therefore the income will not show in the P&L report in the correct month.
The process I am following is I select the icon, Apply Credits, on the invoice. The Apply Credits screen opens and I select the credit in the Available Credits table. The date in the top area of the Apply Credits window, 10/16/2024, is fixed on today's date. The invoice Due Date is 9/6/2024 in the previous month. The credits were received on 9/6/2024. Because of the Apply Credits window date of 10/16/2024, the payment is applied in October not September.
Desktop QuickBooks did not preform this way the last time I closed out a month. I have been able to apply credits in the previous month in the past. This change causes my books to be inaccurate because I am unable to apply income in a previous month.
Please Help if anyone know what I am doing wrong.

It looks like you're using a custom invoice template and I'm guessing the date field isn't checked. Go to Lists > Templates > Select the appropriate template > Additional Customization... > Make sure the date box is checked under 'Screen'.
Thank you, GBR13, for providing such detailed information. I’d like to offer some valuable insights on how to apply credits to invoices from the previous month in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Firstly, it’s essential to understand that the date on the invoice will also appear in the Apply Credits window. If you modify the date on your invoice, the date in the Apply Credits window will automatically update to reflect this change. Therefore, I recommend carefully reviewing your open invoices to ensure you are selecting the correct invoice from the previous month, as it’s possible to unintentionally open a more recent one.
Additionally, for comprehensive instructions on creating a credit memo and refund check in QBDT, please refer to our guide: Give your customer a credit or refund in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.

Hello, there GBR.

In addition, once you've identified the correct process and understood how everything works, you can run a report that displays the credit and effectively filter the data based on your requirements. For further guidance, I've included this article for you: Customize Reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

Change the invoice date to 9-6-24 and your income will hit as of that day. The due date is only relevant for A/R reports.
Technically, if you're on cash basis, the income should be recorded in August since that's when you received the cash but QB Desktop does not handle that properly.

Thank you for the reply.
I have been following the process of creating invoices and applying credits in the month after they are due for several years and the process has worked. I am missing something because I do not see where to change the invoice date. There is a setting in preferences that one can set new transactions to use today's date or the last entered date. Please let me know how to the invoice date. Thanks again.

I will make the changes and mark your reply as the solution.
I do have a question about subscription QB Desktop in general if you have time. If not, you do not need to reply because the question is off this topic.
Thank you for your help.
