Can I filter by Customer Type in QBO reports?

I do not see  a way to filter by customer type in reports such as open invoices. I created a customer type and assigned to a customer but cannot figure out how to turn on this field for filtering.

Thanks

Can I filter by Customer Type in QBO reports?

You've come to the right place, Mrjan.

I have just the steps you'll need to filter your report by Customer Type in QuickBooks Online.

Thanks for letting me know ahead of time that you've already created and assigned the customer type. This makes the entire process easier since all we need to do now is filter the report. Let me walk you through that:

  1. Click Reports in the left navigation menu.
  2. Search for Sales by Customer Detail and open it.
    - You can also open any sales report you want.
  3. From the Group By drop-down menu, choose Customer Type.
  4. Click Run report.

For more insight about this, I'm also including this article: How to customize reports

That should do it. I'm confident that with these resources, you'll be able to filter reports like a pro in QuickBooks in no time.

Please keep in touch with me here should you have any additional questions or concerns, I'll have you covered. Have a great day!

Can I filter by Customer Type in QBO reports?

That helps with sales but I was looking for open invoices by Customer Type.  On the other hand, the new Location field will help quite a bit.

Thank you for getting back to this thread, Mrjan.

Filtering the reports to show the Customer Type is only available on the sales reports. You can filter the report to show the open invoices per customer and type. The Sales by Customer Type Detail report or any sales reports will let you do this.

Here's how:

  1. Click Reports on the left panel.
  2. Type Sales by Customer Type Detail (or any sales reports) in the search box.
  3. Click the Customize button in the upper right-hand corner.
  4. Maximize the Rows/Columns section, and then click the Change columns link.
  5. Check the boxes for Customer Type and A/R Paid (this will show if an invoice is still open or not).
  6. Click Run report.
  7. If you want the report to show only the invoices, then we'll include the Transaction Type filter.
  8. Follow step 3, and then maximize the Filter section.
  9. Check the Transaction Type box and choose Invoice.
  10. Click Run report.

To have this option in the Open Invoices report, I'd recommend sending a feature request to our developers. This lets them know how you'd like the program to work.

Please let me know if you need anything else. I'll be here to help you further.

Does not work with all sales reports - there is no group by in the Sales by Customer Summary Report for example.

Hello @idonotneedanID,

You're on the right track, customizing and grouping your data in a report is available only to your detail-type reports.

May I ask how you wish to show your transactions on your sales report? learn more about how you can customize a report with this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Also, here's a compilation of articles you can use to determine how your business is doing financially: Create and manage reports in QuickBooks Online.

Keep me updated in the comments below if you have any other questions. Stay safe!

Can I filter by Customer Type in QBO reports?

We are now in Nov  2025

and this is not working, there is no filter option or group option for "Customer Type".  Yes we have many customer types. What is the point of having this option if I cannot get reports for them.

I need Reports that have my customer name & there "Customer Type" that is located in the Additional info section of the customer profile.

I would also love the option to show customer type in the AR ageing summary - This is super important as we could use this to know if our member is active or inactive - before we have written off their balance

Thank you
