How to record a payment to a bill

I entered a bill into vendors. But instead of paying the bill with my checking I paid the bill with my visa. How can I now post that payment to the bill without messing up anything or creating another bill?

How to record a payment to a bill

Hi there, @Absolutely

I'm here to help correct your bill payment without creating another bill. All you need to do is open the bill payment attached to the bill you created and change it to the correct account.

Here's how:

  1. Locate the bill.
  2. Then go to the Reports tab and click Transaction History.
  3. Highlight the Payment and click the Go To tab.
  4. This will open the bill payment check. Go to the Bank Account field and click the drop-down arrow to change it to the correct account. Click OK when prompted with the account change.
  5. Once done, click Save & Close.

That should do it. If you need information about paying bills in the future, you can always refer to this article: Pay bills in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if you have other questions about the bill payment. I'll be here to help.

Thanks that is helpful for another issue.

But that will not work on this one.

I paid the bill using my credit card so I never enter anything towards the bill.

The bill is still sitting there as if I have never paid it.

The problem is this credit card isn't set up in quickbooks.

 I'm still learning quickbooks.
