Modifying Estimates Messes Up Transaction History

Hello,

On QB2020 for General Contractors for MacBook, I often need to change the value of an estimate that has already been invoiced to and paid on. I either need to increase or decrease it.

Anytime an estimate value is changed after its already been invoiced, the transaction history will clear. The invoice numbers will show, but the amounts will go to 0, and in the customer center the estimates are listed as having 100% open / un-billed balances.

I usually am forced to deleting the invoices and payments and re-entering them after changing the estimate.

This is extremely time consuming and annoying. Is there anyway to update an estimate (increase or decrease the amount) without messing up the transaction history?

I would appreciate any advice.

Modifying Estimates Messes Up Transaction History

Hello, calipol2009.

I'll provide a brief overview about editing an estimate with an invoice link.

Editing an estimate will always change the transaction history and unlink it from the invoice. Invoicing from an estimate acts as a final sale.

You'll want to continue deleting and recreating the invoices in the meantime. Though, I agree that this is time-consuming. The feature to edit estimates without messing up the transaction history might be included in our future improvements.

For now, I suggest looking at our release note articles for news about them: Release notes for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2020

I'm all ears if you have more questions about managing your customer transactions. You can also add any other concerns you might have for the Mac version.
