Need Help - Write Check function is requiring me to hit "Clear Splits" on every check entered

16-year Desktop Pro user here. Working out of 2023 version.  QB has been super glitchy this week with payroll functions and not sure if Intuit has cleared it up yet.  However, this post does not have to do with payroll.

Out of the blue today when I go to the Write Checks function I'm having to hit "Clear Splits" on every check AFTER I enter the vendor and dollar amount, otherwise it's putting the dollar amount on the Expenses Tab and when I go to manually enter the Expense Account and tab and enter the dollar amount, it's doubling it on the Expense Tab and telling me my amounts are "out of balance".   It's very bizzarre and took me a while to figure out.

The only workarounds I've figured out so far is to hit "Clear Splits" AFTER I enter the dollar amount in the check and then manually enter in amount field below -OR-  edit "Account Settings" under the Vendor's profile to add expense accounts.

Before, QB would auto fill the expense account and I would hand-key the amount or manually split between expense accounts.   I've closed down QB and restarted and it hasn't fixed it AND it's affecting all of my client company accounts now, not just the one I was working in.

I don't have the time to edit thousands of vendors  -  is this simply a preference I can turn off somewhere?  It's a huge waste of time to have to hit "Clear Splits" on every check and am hoping there's a simple solution.

Need Help - Write Check function is requiring me to hit "Clear Splits" on every check entered

I have used Quick Books for 23 years and just started having this same problem with every check I entered since yesterday and had to go into Register and manually correct from there.  It appears to me that the "Clear Splits" Tab above check I am writing has an "x" on it that I cannot remove, so I am guessing that is the cause of the problem.  This is definitely an annoying and time consuming issue!

Annoying indeed!  QB desktop has been super glitchy this week.  The strange thing is I didn't change any of my preferences, it's as if a software update changed the check function as this happening across multiple client Company Files that I do accounting for.

I did play around since posting this question, and found a solution:

Go to: Edit > Preferences > General > My Preferences > find where it says Automatically Recall Information and select the first option  (so select "Automatically recall last transaction for this name")  and DESELECT "Pre-fill accounts for vendor based on past entries".

This has seemed to stop the chaos for the moment.   Hope that helps!
