Negative entries on invoices are showing in register as positive deposits

I used to be able to choose one of my "Products & services" such as "Retainer Paid" and enter it as a negative number on my invoice and it would be fine.

Now it adds the negative number from invoice as a positive deposit in my register.

When I delete the deposit, that is not real, it kills the whole invoice and I must recreate invoice which now there are multiple invoice numbers for the same sale and bla bla bla.

If I add it to invoice and DO NOT choose a "Products & services", but manually type "Retainer Paid" in the description it works fine.

Why do you all keep changing things.

Its a continuous learning curve with QuickBooks.

It never ever ends!

Extremely frustrating.

I have wasted two hours, again!

Negative entries on invoices are showing in register as positive deposits

Hey there, @staugustinehouseplans

Welcome back to the Community!

I can see how frustrating this can be when creating invoices. At this time, I recommend submitting some feedback to our Product Developers so that they can consider bringing it back to QBO. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon in the top right-hand corner.
  2. Press the Feedback option.
  3. Enter your suggestions.
  4. Tap Next to submit them.

I'm only a post away if you have any other questions or concerns. Take care!

"Now it adds the negative number from invoice as a positive deposit in my register."

It's creating a bank deposit?  If so, then the Retainer Paid item must be linked to your bank account under 'Income account' on the item set up screen when it should be linked to a liability account.

"If I add it to invoice and DO NOT choose a "Products & services", but manually type "Retainer Paid" in the description it works fine."

Are you saying when you click on the product/service box and then you select 'Retainer Paid', it creates the deposit but if you manually type 'Retainer Paid' and select that item, it works fine?  Are you positive you don't have two 'Retainer Paid' items set up?  Can you post a screenshot of the Product/Service information (set up) screen for the item(s)?

So you want me to re-explain the problem, send it in a form, and wonder for years if anything was done about it.

I will be happy to troubleshoot YOUR software at my hourly rate.

Maybe you development team can recreate it all on their own?

Unbelievable!

Hey man, relax.  You're asking for free advice, what are you expecting?  I have no affiliation with QB.  I'm just a fellow QB user and business owner willing to help you out but I need more information to do that.  If you're not willing to make a few clicks to see why it's not working, that's fine.  I'm not sure what else anyone can do for you.
