QB is unable to deduct withholding tax(vendors income tax) when making a payment

I want to pay a vendor $5. But I need to withhold him a certain amount of money that will be remitted to the tax office the next month. The journal payment entry for this is quite simple. debit vendor $5, credit tax office $1, credit bank $4.

But whenever i do this journal, QB says "you cannot have 2 or more A/R or A/P in one journal". I think this restriction is unjust. I believe QB should allow two vendors or customers to be able to offset ones balances. I don't see any reason for such a restriction. if I owe my vendor $100 and my customer owes me $100 I should be able to tell my customer to pay my vendor directly so long as I (main business) am aware of the transaction. Unless if this is not allowed by IFRS.

Thanks for dropping your concern here in the thread, @Twambi. Let me share some information regarding using an Account receivable or Account payable in one journal.

You cannot use two or more A/R or A/P in one journal in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). It is to avoid issues in maintaining the account records and to ensure that the transactions are categorized and reported. If transactions were allowed to contain multiple A/R or A/P accounts in one journal, it would be challenging to determine which accounts should be credited or debited, leading to potential errors in financial reporting. However, if you're using QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can have more than one A/R or A/P transaction within one journal.

To offset the balances in QBDT, you can have a clearing account to record the transactions and make a separate journal entry to put the correct amounts in their accounts. This way, it will make sure that the transactions are recorded successfully.

On the other hand, you can check out this article as your guidance with handling your transactions inside QBO and QBDT:
