Customer ACH Payment for partially paid invoice

I've noticed that if a customer has paid a deposit and I apply it to their invoice, then they are not able to pay the invoice online using the "customer pays the fee" option since the invoice is partially paid. Our business is in the construction industry so most of our projects have deposits. Has anyone figured out a work around for this? The $25 convenience fee is typically less for our customers than the 1% transaction fee would be if I turned on the business pays the fee option and just added a separate line item to cover the fee.

Customer ACH Payment for partially paid invoice

Thank you for reaching out with your question about handling ACH payments for partially paid invoices. I understand you're looking to manage convenience fees effectively for your customers, LAPE123.

When online ACH payment options for partially paid invoices are unavailable, you can create a service item dedicated to the convenience fee you wish to cover. This allows you to manage the fee directly within the invoice.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon in the top right corner of your QuickBooks Online dashboard.
  2. Select Products and Services.
  3. Click New, and then choose Service from the options provided.

Once you've created the service item for the convenience fee, add this item to your customer's invoice and mark the item with a negative value. This adjustment will effectively cover the convenience fee for your customer.

In summary, by using this method, once the invoice is paid in full, your customer will not be burdened with the convenience fee.

Refer to this article for detailed guidance about ACH bank payment with a convenience fee.

After creating the invoice, you can record the invoice and make a bank deposit in your QBO account.
