How do I pay bills already entered in QB with a credit card

I have multiple bills entered and some of them get paid with checks and some of them get paid with credit cards.  I would like to select existing bills to be paid with a credit card.  Right now, I have to re-enter them as a credit card charge and delete the existing bills.  Seems like a waste of time to me.  Thanks!

How do I pay bills already entered in QB with a credit card

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to reach out to us here on the Community page, @ascades.

Paying bills is as simple as creating bills in QuickBooks Desktop. If the bills are paid by credit card, then you can select Credit Card as payment method under the Pay Bills window.

Here's how:

  1. Click on Pay Bills under Vendors.
  2. Choose the bills you want to pay under the Pay Bills window.
  3. Pick Credit Card under Method.
  4. Select the credit card account under the Account section.
  5. Hit Pay Selected Bills.
  6. Tap Done.

Here are the articles you can read more about the bills feature in QuickBooks Desktop.

I DON'T have the Credit Card option - how simple that would be.

I have long standing credit cards.  Under the Pay By Account, they do not come up in the drop down window.  I tried to set up a credit card act thinking I could merge it with an existing one but I get a warning Notice saying this account is the wrong type for this field.  Please enter a different account of the appropriate type fore this field.

Hello, @cascades

Let's work together and get this resolved. To properly assist you with this issue, can you provide a screenshot of you trying the third step that my colleague provided in the post above? Also, is this occurring with one user or all users? Once I've received this information, I'll be able to determine the best solution for this issue. In the meantime, here's an article that may come in handy:

I want to make sure your issue is resolved as soon as possible. I'll be waiting for your response.

I am the bookkeeper and the Administrator.  The other user is the owner who rarely uses the system.  I can't ask him to try it.

Hi @cascades,

Thank you for your prompt reply, as well as providing a screenshot.

Although what you provided is the error message that you get when you tried to create a new credit card account in QuickBooks Desktop. What my peer @Candice C mentioned above is the screenshot of you trying the 3rd step provided by my colleague @Angelyn_T.

See the screenshot below for your reference:

It would be nice to hear back from you. Drop me a comment below, and I'll get back to you.

Thank you, All, For your Help.

In working with my Tech to get the screenshot of the drop down, we realized my system is NOT updating.

We updated and now I have my existing credit cards as options to use!  I am thrilled.

Please, consider this solved....and thank you.
