Taking payments outside of QBSE

Since the invoicing for QBSE is absolutely atrocious (no automatic sales tax option), and there are little to no integrations for outside apps (in comparison to QBO) and I need QBSE functionality for separating personal and business expenses as well as the auto mileage tracking. I am looking elsewhere for CRM and invoicing without breaking the bank. If I find one, what are my options for showing the income from these transactions? Or do I need to suck it up and just use the manual sales tax line?

It's my priority to ensure your transactions are accurately tracked, jdhumpf.

Once you find the right app that you can integrate with QuickBooks Self-Employed, you can add the transactions in the program manually by creating a separate line item. Then, enter the amount for the sales tax.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Invoices menu and then select Create invoice.
  2. Choose Add product or service.
  3. Select the Product or Service drop-down menu.
  4. Click on + Add new.
  5. Enter the sales tax name and the rate.

  6. Once done, click on Save.

For more details, please see this article: Manually Track Sales Tax in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Additionally, I've included our QuickBooks Self-Employed Overview for future reference. There, you're able to see how the program helps you track everything throughout the year.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comment section below. I'm always here to help you out.
