How can I show either a discount column for each line, or show the Price Level applied to an Invoice? Using the subtotal method means I can ever run a sales report by item and know what I charged each customer. Not being able to see what price level has been applied means I can not show the customer their discount rate.
We need to show list and discounted price, and be able to run a report telling us what the net price was to each customer. How can I do this?
I want to ensure you're able to see those discounts added to a sales form, @Vtabee. I'll share some workaround you can use to achieve it.
In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), the ability to add a discount column and show the price level applied to an invoice is unavailable. You can only add a discount item and a subtotal to an invoice when adding a discount.
Additionally, showing a list of discounted prices is unavailable in the program since this is added as an item and not tied to any of the product items you've created in the file.
As a workaround, you can run a Custom Transaction Detail Report and customize the details to show the discount applied to your customer's invoice. Here's how:
For further guidance in customizing a report, check out this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
The program also allows you to save the modifications you made and use them in the future. To do so, just use the memorize report feature.
I'm always willing to provide help if you have other concerns in managing your customer's invoices. Feel free to leave a reply below. Have a good one.
Thank you for that work-around. In theory this works, however if there is more than one discount line (we often have two) then you cannot be sure of what discount applied to what item, unless you create some excel formulas to prove the total discount amount and calculate the discount given to each item. Even then, you're going to have rounding issues, and it's a manual process. It seems they will not be improving the Desktop versions, so we may have to look at Online.
Thank you again for a work-around idea!
