Is there a way to do a temporary credit authorization hold for a payment then process the final amount later?
Hi @tgleeson1,
I'm here to handle your query about a credit card authorization hold.
At this time, this specific feature you mentioned isn't available for QuickBooks Payments (Merchant Services). I can see how it can be useful both to you and other users as well. Rest assured, we've taken note of what you stated.
You can view this article for a list of different methods you can process payments in QuickBooks Payments: Process and take payments with QuickBooks Payments. This includes a short video clip that you can view for reference on the process.
Feel free to drop a comment below in case you have other questions in mind. I'll be sure to get back to you.
Not having this feature hinders our ability to use QBO payments for our business operations. We must apply a credit card auth in order to rent our products. This is essentially a damage deposit. Do you have any suggestions for getting around this? -Thanks
James
Thanks for joining in this conversation, @alocusofcontrol. At the moment, we don't have a workaround for this.

We are in the same boat over here. I noticed that the response in 2020 was that "we are working on that". Any progress??

point?
Afaik, QB Payment has yet to offer the feature. You should explore other payment gateways. There are some options in market and you may need a connector to integrate with your QBO account.
What other options on the market do you know of that are available? I am also searching for a work around and have explored other payment processing options at STRIPE and with Chase merchant services with no luck for small businesses.
Hello, vrd2107.
In QuickBooks, there are various apps that have this kind of functionality and can sync with QuickBooks. However, I can't suggest which particular app suits your business. You can check with our 3rd party software that works with QuickBooks.
You may consider checking our 3rd party apps through this article: QuickBooks App Integration.
In the meantime, you can also visit the QuickBooks Blog website to see the most up to date information about the products’ services and features.

Hi there,
It is not readily apparent in reading through these app descriptions and services that they offer the specific service of allowing merchants to place CC holds/authorizations (ie. for security deposits) as opposed to just simple payment processing/payment links/invoicing.
You should explore Authorize.net , TSYS/Heartland, and USAePay. They have a feature to let a merchant authorize and hold an amount without charging the customer immediately. Check our profile name and send your business email address in a private message to us. We will introduce you directly to the connector app developer and you will be able to integrate your QBO account with one of those payment processors.
There is an option that allows temporary authorization credit card hold, but I haven't been able to find any information detailing exactly how it works. I called and spoke to someone today and it is my understanding that you a hold can be placed and it automatically expires within 7 days. You can capture the hold if it hasn't expired. Would be nice if there was detailed information on how it works.
Which payment processor do you mean? We can help check if QB connector supports it or not
Did you ever receive help on how to do this?
I appreciate you for joining this forum, @chefmichele. The option to temporarily hold the credit authorization for payment is still unavailable in QuickBooks.
You want to consider using a 3rd party app that would integrate with QuickBooks.

You need to use a 3rd party payment processor and a connector to integrate with QBO.
This is a BIG gap in functionality
Has there been any updates on the authorization hold?
I appreciate you for joining this thread, smithavenuestudio.
I'm here to share follow-up information about the Temporary Authorization Credit Card Hold for QuickBooks Payments.
The authorization holds on credit card transactions guarantees to protect you from fraudulent activities. And I understand how important to implement this feature.
Currently, this option is still unavailable. I'm unable to tell when this feature will be ready. For now, I'd recommend sending your valuable suggestion to our Product Team. They'll take note of your ideas and evaluate them. Open your QuickBooks company file. Then, go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
Alternatively, we can follow the same recommendation above. We can look for a third-party application that helps with credit authorization hold: QuickBooks App Integration.

Has there been any update on the availability of a temporary authorization credit card hold?
Thanks for joining this thread, Handyman. I'd like to provide you with an update about the availability of the temporary credit card hold feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
I understand how important it is for you to implement this feature. However, this option is not yet available in QBO. For the time being, I recommend sending feedback to our product developers about your request to add the temporary credit card hold feature. This way, our product engineers can consider incorporating it into future updates.
Here's how:
As a workaround, you can use a third-party app that has the capability to hold a credit card temporarily in QBO. You can visit our QuickBooks Marketplace to browse for suitable apps.
Additionally, you can refer to our article for detailed steps on how to streamline your billing process and ensure timely payments by setting up a recurring credit card payment in QuickBooks.
