Why are my Customer payments are declining ?

Let's dive into why customer payments were declined and how we can resolve the issue effectively in QuickBooks, Jerrin28157. Let's get started.

There are several reasons why a customer's credit card payment might not go through, including issues with authorization or missing information.

If a payment is declined, you can log into your merchant service account to review the declined transactions and find out the specific reason for the decline.

Here are some reason why declined payments happens:

  • Invalid account number
  • Expired credit card
  • Overlimit or past due
  • General decline, no other information provided by the processor
  • The issuing bank will not electronically authorize the credit card
  • Billing Address in QuickBooks Online does not match the address on your statement

That said, you can follow these tips and steps you can take to resolve the issue:

  • Ensure the credit card number and verification code (usually on the back of the card) are correct.
  • Most credit card numbers are 16 digits long. American Express cards are 15 digits long.
  • In addition to the credit card number, you need to enter a verification code. For most cards, like Visa, Mastercard, and Discover cards, it's the 3-digit code on the back of the card. For American Express, it's the 4-digit code on the front of the card.
  • Ensure there are no special characters or spaces in the credit card number or other data fields.
  • Use the customer's address from the US USPS website.

For additional instructions, read the details from this link: Fix customer's declined credit card payments.

If none of these solutions work for you, consider asking your customer for another form of payment. If your customer needs to use the credit card you're having issues with, please ask them to contact their company directly for help.
