Error Message: "QBWC: Payroll Item assignment failed for..."

Every time I Sync QB time with QB desktop I get the error message:

"QBWC: Payroll Item assignment failed for... That payroll item doesn't exist! ..."

I get this message 9 times for different payroll items. We updated some payroll items in QB Desktop and removed a few old ones. Currently team members are NOT assigned any of these items in either program and I don't see these items in QB Time.

I do I update Qb Time so I no longer get these error messages when I Sync with QB desktop?

Is it possible that these Payroll items may be assign on old timecards from a few years ago?

Hello, @bmyles.

I'm here to help you in syncing your data to QuickBooks Desktop.

Make sure that the payroll item is created in QuickBooks and assigned there before initiating the import. You can refer to this article for detailed instructions: Add or change pay types.

Once that is completed, you can proceed with the following steps to synchronize the data:

  1. Open QuickBooks Time and QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Log in to QuickBooks as admin in single-user mode to perform a sync.
  3. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to File and select App Management. Then, select Update Web Services.
  4. The Web Connector opens.
  5. Select the appropriate company file, then select Update Selected.

Once you confirm that the payroll items have been successfully imported, you can allocate them to the employees by following these steps:

  1. In QuickBooks Time, at the top right, select QuickBooks, then Preferences.
  2. Select the Payroll Item Mapping Tool.
  3. On the Employee Map tab, choose an employee's name.
  4. In each hour type column, select one payroll item for each. Selections are saved automatically. Example: Regular time: choose their regular hourly or salary.

Thanks- That appears to have worked.

The key was to be in Single-user mode before performing the sync.
