Getting hours from quckbooks time to quick books online for self employed person

I am having issues getting my hours from quickbooks time to QBO for billing my hours.  Once I've filled out my hours, i approve mine and employee hours but time stops me and wants me to fill out my hourly amount - Obviously, i dont get paid hourly..... If i make nothing on a job, i simply dont get paid..... so how do i set this up correctly so that quickbooks online isnt creating a huge mess with my worker comp, state and federal with holdings.   I tried asking a few years ago when i had a rep from Time online with some other problems i was having.... but either i neglected to remember to ask or it got glossed over so quickly i thought it would be easy to figure out... its not.   Id rather not lose the 4 hours of trying to make a phone call, google or ai just leads me back to that same dilemma and doesnt address the issue of me becomming an employee and be garnished for with holdings etc.  What am i missing?

Getting hours from quckbooks time to quick books online for self employed person

Hi Stearns,

I appreciate the detailed information about the issue you've encountered. I understand how important it is for you to resolve this matter promptly for your business operations. To address this, you must ensure to properly configure your QuickBooks Time profile to prevent being prompted to enter an hourly rate. I'm here to provide you with a clear guide to help you resolve this issue.

To get started, please know that if you're classified as an employee, the system will automatically default to an hourly wage model. However, since your billing is based on specific jobs rather than hourly work, it's recommended to classify yourself as a contractor or vendor. This will prevent the system from prompting you to add an hourly rate and allow you to be compensated on a per-project basis, which aligns better with your existing billing model.

Meanwhile, it would also be advisable to double-check your QB Time profile settings. This way, the system will correctly recognize your payment structure and prevent unnecessary prompts for hourly rates. To do so, here's how:

  1. Open your QB Time account.
  2. Go to My Team, then find your profile.
  3. Click the icon, then select Edit.
  4. The Team Member Details window will open
  5. On the General section, please check for any mistakes in your setup. Also, ensure you add and select important information such as the pay rate, salaried status, and exempt status.
  6. Once done, click Save.

Afterward, navigate to the Approvals section and approve the time entries again.

Getting hours from quckbooks time to quick books online for self employed person

Thanks for the reply.  I dont think you understood my question tho   - quickbooks forces me to be an employee in order to use workforce.  That opens up a huge problem with Federal and State and workerscompensation

I am a sole proprietor - all that gets calcuated on my schedule C.

The work around that i just came across was to change to "commission only"  Negating quickbooks from trying to collect employee taxes from me among other issues.   I do see i am regarded as an employee in quickbooks - i am assuming that is just for monthly fees. This system makes zero sense to me and seems to be wracked with ways of making things way more complex than they need to be adding tons of hours to a simplistic thing as hourly billing.

I did obviously call on initial set up and try to understand the problem with creating the app to making it work properly.   It adds at least an hour more to create an invoice then is necessary.  I've done these invoices for decades in under 15 minutes.  Thats no longer possible just creating the invoice with just two employees working a regular work week because of the non-integration to quickbooks until approvals.

Frustrated with time consuming programs that eat my life away......

I need to add myself to invoices at the same hourly rate as my employees.   The fact that i would have to enter my self in any other way then who i am, should tell you that the program created does not work with or was designed for small businesses that are sole proprietors or LLCs.
