Seriously Charles? Have you not read this entire thread? Dozens of us have spent hours on the phone with Tech Support and have gotten no where. Not one of the techies I've spoken to has offered to send it up to Level whatever the heck, or to escalate it at all. One techie told me it was my printer and I had to tell it that I was printing 1099s. WHAT??? I have been a QB Pro Advisor for 17 years and the service for the past year and a half has made me wish I could retire yesterday. The cost continues to rise, the support gets worse and worse, and now a terrible software issue at the most critical time of the year. I am appalled.

Seriously? Would you all at QB get on the same page. One of you will say it's fixed another will post right after you that the update is not out yet for all of us to peruse. I guess I will spend tomorrow morning uninstalling and reinstalling QBDT. What a waste of my time. Maybe I will just buy another software program like TaxRight to do my 1099NEC's. I am seriously going to find another accounting program that is not headed in the same direction as QB....for the price, I think it is not a good deal anymore.

And notice goes on to give the steps of updating payroll and gives the same articles that have nothing to do with 1099NEC not printing correctly.

This is just an ongoing case of "gaslighting" by Intuit employees...(in case you don't understand what I mean by "gaslighting" go here: https://www.verywellmind.com/is-someone-gaslighting-you-4147470#:~:text=Gaslighting%20is%20a%20form%....) 
We are continually told to contact customer support, or update the program, or to wait...and all will be well...as though we're all crazy.

 

I finally have given up. I created a spreadsheet of the information required for the 1099-NEC (which took about an hour), created a mail merge template (which took about an hour) and output the 40 forms without an issue (about another hour to fine-tune). The three hour investment of time was better than engaging in frustrating interactions with customer service agents who have no real information to share.  

I used Adobe InDesign, and its data-merge utility, to develop and output a PDF that I then printed on the approved 3-up forms. But it can be done in Word or any other similar product. As a user of Quickbooks since 1993, I am seriously disappointed in Intuit's apparent arrogance.

10:09, Thursday, January 6, 2022: The issue has finally resolved itself on all of my office's computers. When I first arrived, the Critical Updates was still showing an error message or "Update Pending." After restarting my computer multiple times and opening the program as Administrator, something finally "clicked," and I now can print the 3-up Forms 1099-NEC. Thanks, to everyone who posted here and got the ear of QuickBooks to get this issue solved, although, like others on this forum, I did not have a lot of confidence in the responses we got on here from the QuickBooks Team. I understand that the QuickBooks Moderators are not the software engineers, but a review of this thread will show that not many of the Moderators had a good handle on what the actual problem was. They were, like all of us, relying on search engine articles that did not address this particular situation. I hope the issue has been resolved for everyone else. If not, keep posting. I wish for everyone to have a good filing season.

Just wondering which version of QBDT you're using, i.e., which year version and which update number, if you have it? My version (2021 QBDT) shows no updates available/necessary...thanks in advance!

I updated my 2019 QBD to 2022 QBD and the 1099-NEC totally disappeared.  The vendor was still in the 1099 list but the amounts were gone and the only option was 1099-MISC Box 14 to map it too!!

 

Needless to say I restored the file back to 2019 QBD and still cannot print the 3 part form but at least I have the data and the form showing.

 

I keep getting the message about Quickbooks wanting to install the update and I have to close and reopen the file.  I have done this twenty plus times today (and many times previous days), restarted my computer etc and it doesn't install the updates.  I've spent enough time on this and will move onto other things for now.

Hello Community,

I have been closely following this topic for the last few weeks. I am shocked and amazed that Intuit has let us down so horribly at this critical time of year. I too, have 1099s to print for 25+ company files, ranging from QBDT 2019, 2020, 2021 and QBO. Although I have not approved any of my clients to move to 2022 yet, I did try to print 1099s from one of the Sample Company files that they provide and it would only print in the 2-up format.

So, at this time, I AM ABLE to print the 3-up forms from 2019-2021, but only from one of my computers. Someone else mentioned that they could not print 3-up from their computer, but their co-worker could. I have the same situation. Many of my clients store their own company file on their computers and I access them with remote screen sharing. Some of those clients were not able to print the 3-up format, but when I copied their file to my computer, I was able to print for them. I also read that someone here was able to fix their QB by uninstalling and reinstalling. What I would propose is that if you are still having problems and have another computer available to you, try printing from a different computer. It seems to work for me. One thing I have observed is that the alignment of the forms is a bit wonky. It is probably dependent on your computer and printer combo, but for my Windows 10 and HP LaserJet Pro what seems to work best is to raise the vertical alignment +8 for the 1099-NEC and lower it back down for the 1099-MISC and 1096 2-up forms. I wasted many forms and then dialed it in with blank paper. I also discovered a couple of anomalies where QB crashes if you try to print or even preview a test page during the alignment process (File>Printer Setup…>1099s/1096>Align). It’s best to just print 3 1099s on blank paper, well not “best”, it was the ONLY way I could do it.

I am also able to print the 3-up forms from QBO, although the graphic when you bring up the page to print them erroneously shows a 2-up form, it actually does print in 3-up format. Seriously, how difficult would it be to fix that graphic? So misleading…

Anyway, I hope this information and workaround helps someone who is still experiencing problems printing their 1099 forms.

Lastly, keep in mind that if you are considering upgrading to the QBDT 2022 version, give it some deep thought. Intuit has now moved to a subscription model for QBDT starting with 2022. That means that you will have to pay EVERY YEAR to continue to use the software, as opposed to the current model where they support the software for 3 years and you only have to pay once every 3 years.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Community. I know time is valuable and want to help with getting the updates installed so that you have the 3 part form available.

 

When obtaining the most updated release for QuickBooks Desktop, please make sure to enable the Reset Update option. It usually fixes issues related to any critical update, as well as other possible errors within the product. In case you need the steps, here's how:

 

  • Click the Help tab at the top menu bar and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Go to the Update Now tab.
  • Put a checkmark on the box beside Reset Update.
  • Hit Get Updates

 

Enabling the Reset Update option is critical especially if you’ve run updates recently. Once you’ve updated, I recommend closing QuickBooks and restarting your computer once again.

 

I appreciate how much time you’ve spent. I know this is a busy time of year and there is a lot to do. Thanks for hanging in there.

I have QBDT 2022 proplus.  I had to uninstall and then reinstall and then run updates.  Reboot computer and it finally allowed me to print the  3 per page.

I have tried that and restarted after each time.  I tried it in different QB files.

I did a re-install repair and that did not work.  I downloaded the tool hub and that did not work either when I followed instructions.  I restarted my computer again and the error is not fixed. 

I do not get the install updates when I  click on the Quickbooks icon like other computers are getting.

 

The next step will be to uninstall and reinstall.  But I have been at this since 8am today and got no other work done so I have to put this on hold for today to be able to help my clients.

This did not work for me either. I too have tried Tool Hub, QB Data Base Service Manager, Updating, Closing, Exiting et al above mentioned tricks ad nauseum BTW and nothing causes the 3-up to appear. (I was hoping this last suggestion would do the trick.) I am using QBDT Pro2020 for 2 HOA's and three LLC's. Lots of 1099NEC's to go out. Do I dare BU, uninstall and reinstall with the inherent risks and still be where I am right now with even less time to do the 1099's let alone the taxes for all the above?

This solution worked for me. I use QB Desktop Pro 2020.

Followed these instructions, restarted computer, opened QB, it did an update to itself. The 1099 wizard changed slightly and now prints 3ups. The only issue I cannot resolve is that I mapped one account as "omit from 1099" but it would not omit that from the 1096 total. It did omit it from that vendor's 1099 total, but not the company 1096 total. I moved it to a fake vendor and that solved it for me. Maybe there is a fix, but after all this bs with the 2up vs 3up I have no more patience to keep trying to fiddle.

Boo-yah, shut the door, and thanks to all who suggested the Reinstall. I can print 3-Up.  Uninstalled (QBDT PRO 2020, QB TOOL HUB, QB_VC10_Debug, QB Runtime Redistributable) and then reinstalled. Updated several times and always checked the Reset Date. After I think three rounds of update, checking each time for the Miracle 3-Up to show, 3-up finally works. Good Luck to everyone. If you are waiting for the QB crew to help you through this, you might have a long and frustrating trail ahead of you. This has been painful and so time-consuming. Have you noticed not ONE QB Employ-Moderator suggested this fix? BTW I am the ADMIN there are no other users on any of my company/HOA accounts.

I purchased 3 to a page 1099 NEC forms - the package said they were QuickBooks compatible.  Is there a way to change the forms within QuickBooks information so it will print correctly on my IRS forms.

SUCCESS - at least in the file I am working in QBD 2019.  I can't face looking at other files today.

I uninstalled, reinstalled, went into the file, did updates, closed out of the file, repeated the in and out 4 times, restarted my computer, went in and out one more time and now I can print a 3 part form in this file.

 

Let's hope I can print in more files as they are in different versions.

Since you've done all of the updates and repairs, your next step is definitely going to be uninstall and reinstall QuickBooks.

See above. Don't know why it worked for me, but I tried everything everyone suggested on this thread and other threads/even Internet searches. I would go for the uninstall and reinstall right off the bat knowing what I know now; that is my humble advice. Just make sure each time you Update several times after the BU/Uninstall/Install process go the Update QB under Help tab, Options- check 'Mark all' and Shared Download and Automatic Updates--all yes and save; then go to Update Now tab, check the 'Reset Update' box. If you haven't tried the part about checking the 'Reset Update' box, that alone has seemed to work for some without BU/Uninstall/Install. Control F for words like QBDT on this thread-or any other specific things you want to look for to get help. Good Luck...I just finished all my 1099NEC today. About 20 hours of looking for a solution  to the 2UP and 3UP issue and in about 2 hours I am ready to stuff envelopes!

QuickBooks 19.0.10.962 R11 is currently the newest version available....this is all i get when i go to update on my 2020 mac...getting very tired of getting incorrect information from quickbooks people on this community forum. still not possible to print 1099 3 part form. get it together. i've gotten over 10 emails now saying it's fixed and it's clearly not!

Checking the "Reset Update" box, as MonicaM3 suggested, also worked for me.  Uninstall/reinstall didn't work.  I have QB Premier 2021 edition.
