Account QuickReport shows Retained Earnings

When I run an Account QuickReport (for P&L accounts), the reports start with the beginning retained earnings related to the specific account then show the transactions for the annual period for which I generated the report. It does not allow me to customize the date to any period less than the annual period since retained earnings is at the top and is included in the running balance. I have never experienced this issue before...why is retained earnings showing at the top of all my reports when I only want to run a specific period within a fiscal year?

Hi jpinder,

It could be a damaged data list. Let's try re-sorting the lists to put them back to the default order.

You have to re-sort the following:

  • The Master Name list (a combination of Customers:Jobs, Vendors, Employees and Other Names)
  • The Chart of Accounts (Account list)
  • The Item list

Please refer to this article for the step-by-step instructions: Re-sort lists.

Afterward, reboot your computer and run the report again.

I'll be around if you have further questions.

This: "why is retained earnings showing at the top of all my reports when I only want to run a specific period within a fiscal year?"

Means you should confirm the Fiscal year setting in this file, and try a Real Report. A Quick Report is not a Financial perspective. it's an Activity report = a Listing. Run, for instance, P&L Detail or Bal Sheet Detail and filter on that one Account name.

The fiscal calendar year start is set at January. I use the Account Quickreport all the time, but this issue has just started happening. Retained earnings never displayed on the reports previously.
