Add / Edit Account Types

Is there a way to add / change account types? It looks like QBO comes with a standard list (Income, COGS, Expenses, Other Expenses, etc) but for reporting purposes it would be nice to change these names and add other account types.

I don't like having to create master accounts with sub-accounts because the only thing I'm using the master for is reporting purposes. In most accounting softwares you can create groups or categories for reporting purposes and add accounts to them, so those categories won't actually show a balance but are just used as a way to categorize accounts for reports.

Is there any way to do this in QBO?

Add / Edit Account Types

Your feedback is valuable to us, @brettrush, as it helps us improve our systems and services for a better experience while using QuickBooks Online.

Please know that there are specific default accounts created within QuickBooks Online. That said, there isn't a way to modify this default account in the chart of accounts.

Additionally, when you set up your company in QuickBooks, the software automatically customizes your chart of accounts based on your business entity. This feature helps you maintain organized books for your business.

Furthermore, I'll share this article to review the default account in the chart of account list: Manage default and special accounts in your QuickBooks Online chart of accounts.

Additionally, there are two ways to display your QuickBooks preferences. See this article for your guide: Switch between Business and Accountant view in QuickBooks Online.

If you have any further concerns or questions regarding the chart of accounts or any other aspect of QuickBooks, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm here to assist you.
