Archive old Chart of accounts and build new one for same company

I am working with a COA that was initially built with some odd accounts and has been added to and changed over several years until today it is a Kraken. I would like to completely close/archive the mess and build a brand new COA beginning Jan. 1, 2023. Is this possible, and if so, how do I do it?

There is no archive utility in QBO, nor can an account be deleted, the best it gets is to make the account inactive and not post to it - that at least gets it off the financial reports for the periods where nothing is posted.

Thank you. I wish Intuit would make that possible, it would certainly lead to cleaner books for the next person who has to step in.

Archive old Chart of accounts and build new one for same company

Thanks for getting back to this thread, @Lori Hardin.

I can see that the option to archive an old Chart of Account is a crucial feature for any business. Discovering new ways to adapt to our customer's needs is how QuickBooks gets even better. Your feedback helps our Product Development team determine which feature will be implemented in the next future update. The change is also based on how popular a specific feature request is.

That being said, I suggest submitting a product suggestion directly to our software engineers. We're taking notes of your ideas and insights. Let me show you:

  1. Proceed to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Click Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Then select Next to submit feedback.

Your relevant feedback goes to our Product Development team to help heighten your experience in QuickBooks Online (QBO). You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website. Additionally, you can keep an eye on our QuickBooks Blog to stay up-to-date with the latest news.

Additionally, I've also included this reference you can utilize to help manage your account in QBO:

Thank you for your patience while we work on this. Feel at ease to get back to this thread if you have other concerns with managing your Chart of Account. I'll be more than happy to help. Please take care!
