Audit Report

Hello,

When I run the audit report, it shows that the "system admin" has made some changes but does not specify them. Also, it shows as "system admin" but does not have the actual admin's name.

Can anyone help with these questions:

1. Can I look at the system admin's specific changes? In other words, is there a more detailed audit report?

2. Why would it show on the audit report "system admin" in the report rather than the name of the system admin?

I appreciate your help.

Greg

So, all of the Intuit/ QB employees say that "System Admin" is from something like a recurring invoice or payment or whatnot.

I, personally, think it's more than that, because it is happening more and more, without anyone knowing, setting it up or giving permission.

If they aren't supposed to be there, delete them.  That's really all you can do.

Audit Report

Hello, Greg.

I'll pop in and elaborate more details about the System admin event on the Audit Log report.

Just_me is correct. To elaborate, System admin or System administrator isn't exactly a user. Rather, an automated bot, if you will, to log any automatic changes made by the system itself.

Aside from the ones mentioned by Just_me, a System administrator event would happen on changes such as:

  • Bank feed updates
  • Tax-related changes
  • Changed system settings
  • Automatic invoice reminders
  • Third-party sync data
  • Editing a payment and linking it to a different invoice

We can take a look at the detailed view of the specific changes by clicking on the View link. However, this only applies to transactions as seen in the screenshot below.

So, certain events like Added Tax Group or Changed settings don't have a View link for details. Though, we can look at all events to see what triggered the System administrator message.

Check the time and date, then review the prior events.

I'd be glad to help you out again if you have more questions about managing your settings, data, and other things. Do you have any concerns about your entries? Add the details here and I'll hear you out.

This is really helpful information. To clarify:

The audit report shows "System Administration" has "changed a setting," and there is nothing in the view history box--then I can assume a QB bot made it of some sort. Is that right?

I sure appreciate the quick and helpful responses.
