Can I assign a default class to specific products or services?

Yes you can, judy30.

You have to set-up Products/ Services information and include the Category. Please refer to the steps below.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under the Lists column, select the Products and services.
  3. Choose if it is: Inventory, Non-inventory, Service or Bundle.
  4. Fill in the necessary details and verify.
  5. Make sure that the Category has been assigned to the product or services.
  6. Hit Save and close.

For more information about the process, you can check out:How to Set Up Products & Services: Non-inventory, Service Items, & More.

I can see that this article can help you out in the future with removing or merging a product or service in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know whenever you need help. Happy to be of assistance. Take care.

Can I assign a default class to specific products or services?

Hello there, @Tiffiny Taylor Krugh

I'd be delighted to share ideas on how to assign classes in QuickBooks Online.

Let's make sure that you have turned on the class tracking to add a class filed or column on your forms.

Here's how;

  1. Go to Gear icon ⚙ and select Account and Settings
  2. Click Advanced then tap Edit ✎ in the Categories section.
  3. Select Track classes.
  4. Select Warn me when a transaction isn’t assigned a class. (Optional)
  5. Select the Assign classes ▼ drop-down, then select One to the entire transaction or One to each row in transaction.
  6. Hit  Save, then Done.

Then we can assign a class to specific products and services.

  1. Click the Sales button then select Product and Services.
  2. Locate the product and services.
  3. Click the Edit button.
  4. Enter a description in the Class field.
  5. Hit Save and close or Save and new.

Once done, it will automatically add when you create an invoice or sales receipt.

For more information about this, I'm also including this article: How to set up and use class and location tracking.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.I'll be happy to lend a hand.

Thanks for the attached screenshot, @Tiffiny Taylor Krugh.

It looks like your class option isn't turn on. You'll want to enable it first to see the class field on your product or services page.

To do so, just follow the steps provided by my colleague @JoesemM. I'll be adding some screenshots to guide you.  You can also visit our page about income and expenses for more related-articles for your future tasks.

Should you have other questions about classes, please let us know. The Community has your back. Happy weekend ahead.

Shelia, your support is wonderful.  However, I have been working classes for years & I just don't have that option in my products window.

If anyone has any ideas why I would certainly appreciate it.

I just figured it out!

The option "One to each row in Transaction" must be selected in classes, screenshot attached.

Thank you!
