Can I change a product/service to default per Hour not per Unit. It seems like an easy fix, but I cannot find the solution anywhere.

When I select the product/service when I'm invoicing, this particular product/service has a default of "Unit", I want to change it to "Hour" instead of manually switching it every time.
I have already used it in some of my previous invoicing. Will that be a problem if I change it?

Hello there, @ctinio-hirehcp-c. I'll be glad to share a few insights about changing a product/service default info from unit to hour in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and guide you on the actions you need to take to help take care of this matter.

I can see how the benefit of being able to change a product/service default info from unit to hour would aid you in managing your transactions with QBO. However, the option to do so is currently unavailable.

When you add products and service items, you can opt to group them into categories to keep things organized. To learn more about this, you can refer to this article: Group your products and services into different categories.

We take your suggestions as opportunities to improve the various features of our products. Therefore, I would encourage you to send suggestions or product recommendations.

Your valuable feedback will be forwarded and reviewed by our Product Development team to help improve your experience while using the program. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Type in your recommendation in the Share your feedback field.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Then, you can use reports to get helpful insights into the things you buy and sell. To know which report to pull up depending on the info you need, please refer to this article: Use reports to see your sales and inventory status.

Also, you may want to check out one of our Help pages as a reference in case you need a guide in managing the growth of your business using QBO: QuickBooks Support. It includes QuickBooks help articles, Community discussions with other users, and video tutorials, to name a few.

On top of that, I'd also recommend visiting this page to keep you updated with the latest software improvements and enhancements with QBO: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online

Let me know in the comments if you have other concerns about managing your products and services in QBO. I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @ctinio-hirehcp-c.

Thanks for the info Rea_M. Would it be better if I simply delete/make inactive the product/service then recreate it? Or will that mess up my system since I have use it for previous invoices?

Thanks for getting back to us, ctinio-hirehcp-c.

Yes, you can delete the old products/services and re-create a new one. The system won't completely delete an item to ensure that your transactions and data are intact.

You just have to make sure to use the new products or services to your new invoices so you'll get accurate reporting.

I'd suggest visiting the following write-up: Sales and customers. This will provide you with links on how to manage your company income as well as sales-related concerns.

If I can be of assistance while working in QuickBooks, please let me know. I'll be more than willing to lend you a hand.
