Can I create a project without a customer in Quickbooks Online Advanced?

Hi there, @Elizabeth. I'm here to help you create projects in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Advanced.

In QBO, creating a project without a customer is unavailable. You'll have to assign a name to the transaction. As a workaround, you can create a dummy customer and assign it to the projects that don't have one.

I'll guide you on how.

  1. To start, let's create a dummy customer by going to the Sales menu and selecting Customers
  2. Click the New customer button and enter the name you want (ex. Dummy customer or the name of the market research) in the Display name as field.
  3. Once done, click Save.
  4. After that, you can now proceed in creating a project for your market research.

For more information about the process, read this article: Set up and create projects in QuickBooks Online.

Then, you can refer to this link to track your project’s labor costs and profitability in QBO: Track hourly labor costs and profitability by project in QuickBooks Online.

Keep me posted if you have any other concerns about managing your projects in QBO. I'm always here ready to lend a hand. Have a great week ahead and stay safe.

Thanks, really don't want to have dummy customers, but understand the process. Hope the feature becomes available not to have to do it that way in the future.
