Can I group and subtotal by project on an invoice template?

Our clients would like their invoices grouped by project because we have more than one active at a time. Can more than one project be on one invoice and then subtotaled?

Can I group and subtotal by project on an invoice template?

Hi there, rickf_Nexnow.

Currently, there's no option to assign one invoice to multiple projects, then subtotal the invoices per project. There also isn't a way to group and subtotal by a project on an invoice template. You can only create multiple invoices for one project in QuickBooks Online.

You can refer to this article to see additional information on how you can use Projects to track project income, expenses, and profitability: Set up and create projects in QuickBooks Online.

Please check this article to view various details on what you can do with Projects: Projects FAQ.

Can I group and subtotal by project on an invoice template?

Hi, this is a major flaw.

Is there any update here? I really need to be able to "group by project" while creating a client invoice. This is a VERY common task and I assume others are anticipating this update as well...

Thanks for joining the thread, @ar5.

For now, the option to grouped invoices by project is still unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). There is no specific timeline as to when will this feature becomes available.

You can directly send this suggestion to our product developers. This way, they can review your request and improve your experience in QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Select the Gear icon at the top and click Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  3. Click Next to submit.

In the meantime, I recommend visiting our Firm of the Future site. This is where we share recent happenings and future developments, such as updates to newly added features.

I'm also including our Help articles for related references in managing your account and transactions.
