Can the debit and credit columns be shown by default in QB desktop?

I'm hoping that there is a way to have reports display the debit and credit columns by default, (instead of the amount column), when running a GL report in QB desktop.

I swear this was how it displayed years ago but I cannot seem to find any settings for it.

Hi there, crd1721.

By default, the debit and credit columns won't show up on General Ledger (GL) report. You need to mark them when customizing the report.

Then, you can memorize the report so you won't have to go through the same customization again. Here's how:

  1. From the reports window, select Memorize.
  2. On the Memorize Report window, enter the name you want to assign the report.
  3. (Optional) Select the Save in Memorized Report Group checkbox if you want to save the report on a specific report group (Accountant, Banking, etc...)
  4. (Optional) Select Share this report template with others. When you select this checkbox, your report template will be accessible to other QuickBooks users when they go to the Contributed tab in the Report Center.
  5. Click OK.

After customizing or memorizing the report, you can export it to Excel for your copy. Check out this article as your guide: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.

Stay in touch with me if there's anything else you need about the GL report. Just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you.

Get and use one of the Accountant editions, Premier or Enterprise. In those additions the GL and other transaction detail reports display the Debit and Credit columns by default.

Sure they will, as I pointed out an hour before you posted after me, if the OP gets an Accountant SKU.

Can the debit and credit columns be shown by default in QB desktop?

I must have the regular Premier Edition. Didn't realize there was an Accountant edition. Is there another work around to make the Debit & Credit default when opening reports? Or just use the memorized transaction thingy?

Memorized reports is I think the only way.
