Hello, Kathy! We are delighted to see you in our Community space and happy to help with any questions you have. I'll provide details regarding the Write Check option in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
I acknowledge how important it is for you to efficiently and effectively perform any activities within the program. If you're referring to the Write Check option, please know that this is available in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). If within QuickBooks Online, you choose either Check or Expense as an option.
When you use the "Check" feature, you are recording a payment that has been made using a physical check. This could be a payment to a vendor or supplier, for example.
On the other hand, when you use the "Expense" feature, you are recording a payment that has been made using a method other than a check, such as a debit card, credit card, or cash. This could also be a payment to a vendor or supplier, but it's not specifically tied to the use of a physical check. Follow the steps below to create expenses.
Here's how:
1. In the menu bar, hit the + New button, then choose Expense.
2. For the Payee field, enter a vendor.
3. Pick a Payment account.
4. Input the date of purchase in the Payment date field and specify the Payment method.
5. Enter the amount/tax paid.
6. Select Save and Close.
Both "Check" and "Expense" transactions are used to track business expenses and payments, but they differ based on the payment method. Please ensure that you have sufficient permissions to view or create the option. For more details, refer to this article: Add and manage custom roles in QuickBooks Online Advanced.
Occasionally, QuickBooks may exhibit unusual behavior due to browser-related issues. In such cases, you can resolve the problem by following some basic troubleshooting procedures.
To start the process, please log into your account and attempt the activity again using a private window. The keyboard shortcuts for different browsers are as follows:
- Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N.
- Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P.
- Safari: Command + Shift + N.
If it works, return to your regular browser and clear your browser's history to start afresh. We also suggest using a different supported browser because the QuickBooks version you're utilizing now may have a temporary malfunction.
