chart of accounts

A portion of our chart of accounts is not staying in order numerically. This causes our balance sheet to have a set of accounts out of order. How can I correct this?

I'd feel the same way when my accounts aren't in order, @WandaJW. Let me help you fix this to organize your Chart of Accounts (COA) seamlessly.

Since you notice an odd behavior of the portion of your accounts, we suggest re-sorting it to make your lists go back on their order numerically. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Lists menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. From the Account drop-down, choose Re-sort list.
  3. Tick OK.

If you manually modify the order of the accounts, then this will undo the changes you've made. This article can give you more insights: Re-sort lists in QuickBooks Desktop.
