Check Register Autofill Date?

Anyone know how to edit, or turn off the auto-date fill when you enter data on check register?

For years, I have been able to edit the dates. (I do my books at the end of every month.) So now my check register is a mess! All the dates are set to TODAYS date, and not the dates that the transactions have occurred in my bank accounts. Anyone know how to change or edit them? Every time I change the dates manually, they dont save - it kicks it back to todays date. :(

Check Register Autofill Date?

Welcome to the Community,

I understand how autofill is affecting your daily business transactions. Let me help figure it out for you and prevent incorrect ways of categorizing transactions.

Your concern about the missing Statement Ending Date box is a symptom of data integrity issue. To fix this, there are a few basic troubleshooting steps we can perform. Let’s start with verifying and rebuilding your data. This process scans your company files for errors or data damage.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the File then Utilities. Select Verify Data.
  2. Wait for it to load.
  3. Click File again, Utilities, then Rebuild Data.
  4. Press OK when you get the message "Rebuild has completed".

For other damage troubleshooting steps for Windows, feel free to check out this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop

If you get the same result after running those troubleshooting steps, I suggest using QuickBooks File Doctor. To begin, download and install the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of QuickBooks Tool Hub. Then let’s install the program by opening the downloaded file (QuickBooksToolHub.exe) and follow the on-screen instructions.

To open the tool hub, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop. We recommend running QuickBooks File Doctor on Windows 10, 64-bit.Then, run the Quick Fix my File utility by following these steps:

  1. Select the Company File Issues tab from the tool hub.
  2. Click Quick Fix my File from the drop-down menu.
  3. Tap OK to launch QuickBooks.

If the issue persists, you’ll want to proceed to Step 3 to fix your company file and network issues.

Entering check dates accurately is important for managing your business finances. Our specialists can review the setup of your check register in a secure space.  They have tools like screen-sharing to help find the cause of the issue and apply a permanent fix to it.

  1. Go to the Help icon at the top menu bar and choose QuickBooks Desktop Help F1.
  2. In the Have a Question window, scroll down to select the Contact us link.
  3. Navigate to the Tell us more about your question section to enter the issue or topic in the field box.
  4. Press the Search button to display the Get Phone Number or Start a Message option.

Check Register Autofill Date?

RE: Anyone know how to edit, or turn off the auto-date fill when you enter data on check register?

There is no way to turn that off. It will always have a default, either today or the date of the last transaction entered, depending on the preference you set. Today is the default.

RE: For years, I have been able to edit the dates. (I do my books at the end of every month.) So now my check register is a mess!

Why does the ability to edit dates cause your check register to be a mess? It's never caused any issues for me that I can think of.

How is this related to your question about the default date?

RE: All the dates are set to TODAYS date, and not the dates that the transactions have occurred in my bank accounts.

Well, if you leave the default date alone as you enter transactions, that will be the date. Is that what you're describing?

RE: anyone know how to change or edit them? Every time I change the dates manually, they dont save - it kicks it back to todays date. :(

I've never seen that happen, where QB lets you change the date, then record the change, and then the date reverts back? Generally when you change the date and move off the check to another one, the date changes.

There are types of checks, I think including paychecks, where you have to open the check form in order to change the date, but in that case QB doesn't let you change the date to begin with.
