When will Intuit make the changes needed for a user to reset the default to Classic view, like almost all real accountants want!

I can confirm that QBO Plus does not have this 'classic vs modern' reports issue.  We use the Essentials and Plus and it only occurs with Essentials.  I too loathe the modern view.  Its worthless and causes extra time to run reports.

@sarahthom24  strange - i have a quickbooks plus subscription and the modern view plagues me everyday. it almost makes me want to report it every day.

Absolutely HATE the Modern View.  Difficult to read and does not download to Excel in a format as professional looking as the Classic View.  INTUIT ... PLEASE revert reports back to Classic View and don't mess with a good thing!

While we appreciate the reply, we need to continue to address the issues at hand.  

 

In the reply we are being told "QuickBooks updates the option and view for a better and more convenient experience while using it. We are aiming to provide the best service while navigating the accounting system. "However, what we are ALL saying is that we do not like the Modern View and it is not a more convenient experience and it is not helping us navigate the accounting system.  It is costing all of us a lot of extra time and headache to review client books, in addition to increasing the time we have to bill our clients even though this issue is not their thoughts.  Having to No-Charge time for this is ridiculous and hurting the profits of our firms.

Next, we're told "We can also try to open another report if this new form appears to be a different report you pull up." - Why do we need to open another report when we know what reports we routinely use and have no need to try to find other reports as a "work around" - again, this is costing us more time and this suggestion is not useful and does not address the issue of the Classic View not being available as the default.  

 

The last piece that's given to us is "If it shows the same, I suggest sending our developer feedback. This way, they can consider bringing back the old form in the reports section. . . Furthermore, our Product Development team receives your thoughtful comments (QBO) through the feature request tracking QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website."  There is no way to know using the gears and submitting feedback if our feedback is going to the right individuals.  Secondly, the QBO Feature Requests website does not have any feedback for this view issue that we can add comments to.  When I go to submit NEW feedback, it takes me to the Mobile QB feedback and not QBO.  Thus, the link included is not useful and still leaves us with no way to ensure our voices are being heard.

 

My suggestion to everyone is to attend the next QBO Updates webinar and ask about this issue LIVE so we can maybe get this issue raised in a manner that may get some attention.

But wait, there's more.  Mid day yesterday my view in banking changed.  The funnel to search transactions doesn't work, you can't change ANYTHING in a reconciled transaction even if it doesn't affect the balance and if you're entering transactions manually, the date reverts back to today's date after each transaction is saved.  They told me it's a beta version, cannot be reversed and soon everyone will have it.  Furious!

QBO. Has this error of "forcing your customers to use a less useful format and taking additional [slow] clicks to see what they really want to see" still not been resolved? This is an easy one for one of your junior programmers. 

 

As a business owner, our experience with QBO has been excruciatingly poor: Extremely slow, poor response times to complete transactions, being confronted with pop-up sales that we don't want or need (which also slow us down and, should be needless to say, features that our bookkeeper is not going to buy on behalf of the company), unexpected/unexplained changes to screens, being forced to use additional clicks (i.e. time) to get to the features/reports that we need. I could go on and on but now I'm spending more time that I shouldnt have to on QBO.

 

Accounting software should be an efficient tool to record business transactions. QBO is not and you should really re-assess what your purpose is if not that. It takes our bookkeeper three to four times longer to do simple transactions. We are now forced to find an efficient tool to record our business transactions.

Will also note that the excel and CSV versions of the reports download in text format, with dollar signs, so that the only way to make the report usable is to invest 20-30 minutes in adding formulas to the reports to delete the dollar signs and convert the numbers.  I'm starting to train my team on Netsuite and will start looking into Xero.  I can't work with a product that doesn't provide reports with usable numbers.

We aim to provide you with the better experience possible with QuickBooks Online (QBO), CFOSecrets.

 

If you are referring to adding comments in the reconciled transaction, just enter them in the Memo column. Just access the Bank register page and open the per transaction and manually type the notes in that column. Then, click Yes in the Warning message. See the screenshot below: 

 

 

 

 

On the other hand, we'll need to manually delete the dollar signs and convert the numbers when downloading a financial report in Excel or CSV format. We see consumer feedback as an opportunity to improve the numerous features of our products. I'd recommend giving our engineers direct feedback. They may look into this suggestion and incorporate it into future updates. Let me demonstrate:

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Hit Feedback.
  3. Type in your recommendation in the Share your feedback field.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Wow - I didn't actually believe that reports exported from modern view would have unusable numbers.  So I tried it.  You are correct - an excel export from modern view yields "custom" values with $ that can't be used and can't be bulk converted to another form.  When I switch to classic view and export the same report, the values come through without the $ and everything works just fine.

 

This is beyond stupid and once again proves how ill-conceived "modern view" is.  Totally unusable.  We export reports all the time and use excel to produce useful information, because QBO reports are so limiting and don't have what we need - like being able to filter by state for instance - just saying.....

 

Please, please, please roll back this horrible "feature". 

 

And please don't respond to this with yet another suggestion that we "report feedback" for the development team.  It is painfully clear that feedback is ignored and that suggesting we do so is just a way for support to drop the conversation.

I agree 100%. I opened my QB this morning, to find that my Invoice view was the new modern look. I like the clean cut look but I can't see all the information. It either cuts off the date or the amount. Intuit please don't change a good thing when it's going well unless you ask you consumers.

I'm replying to my own post here, but I talk to myself regularly anyway.  Back in 7th grade I was referred by Sister Barbara as being a "ring leader".   I've only gotten worse in my old age, so I am going to resurrect that characterization by enjoining all QBO users upset with the Modern View and Intuits lack of response to the complaints as a call to action.  What action?  Might I suggest that you submit weekly, via the gear icon/Feedback, your request to have functionality to set your default view to Classic.  Do it now! And keep on doing it.  Week after week until we get what we want.  I am about to submit my 3rd feedback.

Hear, hear, DudleyD! The fact that they have received overwhelmingly negative responses to the recent changes and have not responded at all is clearly their way of saying "We don't care, just give us your money". Will begin being a pest myself as well!

Yes...DudleyD....you are welcome to take over the role of ringleader, I will be happy to follow anyone who comes up with additional means of pressuring QBO to LISTEN and ACT in any sort of helpful way.  I submitted my first gear feedback in this series just now.  Will continue to do so as suggested and I hope everyone gets on board.  It would be a freakin' miracle if QBO actually responded in a useful modification and gave us the CHOICE for defaulting to Classic instead of Modern View, but hey, hope springs eternal.  I'm in.

Thanks for the tip!  We are fed up with QBO changes that at best are not any improvement and at worst (like Modern View) make things more frustrating and take longer.  We have started shopping around.

It goes beyond this one issue.  Lets be honest, it seems every time there is a price increase, Intuit releases another "update" that lowers the bar for user experience.  Could it be pro advisors are left in the dark as these changes are implemented is an intentional act meant to drive users to Intuit's new program of their own "accountant" services?   

 

Rumor has it in CPA forums that Intuit plans to double the price of QB Desktop pro payroll subscriptions in yet another attempt to drive accountants into dropping desktop payroll and forcing clients into QBO payroll which would require they not only purchase a subscription for QBO payroll but QBO proper to access payroll. I have multiple S-Corp clients who's only payroll is the owner and I will have a hard time explaining why they need to take on two monthly subscriptions for a payroll that most run quarterly or in some cases, annually.

 

None of this is surprising since Intuit already sees to it that the QB desktop version people have purchased are virtually useless after three years as they suspend the ability to connect to bank services or even import QBO files once the product falls out of support.  Intuit has already announced they will no longer support Bill.Com in QBO now that they have their own bill pay platform which tells me to expect more episodes of extortion as they announce each new "service" they will "offer".

 

Most of the people using QBO are very, very small businesses with limited resources and no accounting knowledge who actually believed the commercials that QBO will make it so easy to run their businesses.  Most of the people that contact me have misunderstood the program's automation and QBO will gladly duplicate the mistakes they made until the books are a work of fiction.  I think there are plenty of modern examples of what happens to companies that have clearly underestimated their customer base and their needs or simply do not care because they think they have enough market share that they are impervious to the anger that is brewing.
