Creating a tabular ledger report

Hi there,

I have been clicking around various report in Quickbooks Online and reviewing questions online to try to find the answer to a question on generating a standard tabular format ledger but I can't seem to find anything. So I am wondering if anybody can assist here please.

I want to be able to generate a ledger report in the following format, per account, class and location for a defined period:

Account No.	Opening Balance	Amount	Closing Balance	Class	Location
12345	2,550	-50	2,500	abc	uvw
12345	1,000	20	1,020	def	uvw
12345	8,300	500	8,800	abc	xyz
12345	-	25	25	def	xyz
56789	etc

I need to do this in order to generate my own reports. However, the standard ledger extract from Quickbooks does not seem to produce this format. It adds extra lines for opening balance and amount for all accounts for some reason. I get that it is easy to read, but for pivoting data it is no useful at all and will require me to do transformations in Excel which I would rather avoid doing. I would have thought this would be a bog-standard report type so perhaps I am missing something obvious. Any pointers please?

Hi there, @KDV1.

I appreciate what you've done to get the report you need. Based on the template you've shown, some of those column items are unavailable in QuickBooks. Although, you can still customize it by checking for the third-party application. Here's how:

Go to the Apps menu.
Enter a keyword in the search box such as, "General Ledger or Customize reports."
A series of available apps will show, you can click on it to see the product specifications.

I also added this article to guide you on memorizing your reports in QuickBooks. It provides detailed instructions which you can follow so that whenever you have a new customized report and you want to reuse the template, you can save it by using the memorize feature instead of customizing it again.
