Creating invoice from and estimate - why is estimate still active?

When I create an invoice from an estimate, shouldn't the estimate automatically be marked as inactive?  Why isn't this happening?

I just realized estimates where still showing penning when I sorted the income tracking by Type.  Several jobs that have already been awarded, invoice and paid are still showing active estimates!

And yes, each of the invoices for those projects were created from the estimate.  So why are they still showing at pending?

Creating invoice from and estimate - why is estimate still active?

Hello, hcarley.

I'm here to share details about the getting estimates automatically closed at the time they've been invoiced.

Estimates in QuickBooks Desktop aren't marked as inactive as soon as it's converted to an invoice. You'll have to manually close your estimates once they're fully invoiced.

To make estimate inactive, Here's how:

  1. Open Estimate window.
  2. Click Edit menu and select Mark Inactive

An estimate is a part of the Accounts Receivable workflow. See this article for other workflows available in QBDT: Get started with customer transaction workflows in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please don’t hold back to drop a comment if you have any other QuickBooks questions or concerns. I’d be glad to provide you further assistance. Take care always!

Yes, you can delete the estimates completely, Lisak65. Let me guide you through the process.

Estimates are non-posting transactions that do not impact your bank and income accounts. Let me guide you on how to do it. Here's how:

  1. Open the Customers menu and select the Customers Center.
  2. Select the Transactions tab and select Estimates.
  3. Find the estimate you want to delete and double-click to open the transaction.
  4. Go to the Main tab, and click on Delete.
  5. Lastly, click on OK.
