2018 desktop premier windows 10. I have been using a custom invoice template for months without difficulty. suddenly, the DEFAULT template for my new invoices is the Intuit Packing Slip. I do not want that. have gone to edit preferences>Company pref>misc>"choose template for invoice packing slip" (which, by the way, makes no sense since invoices dont have packing slips) and selected my custom invoice template to be the default. Saving, closing, and creating a new invoice STILL defaults to the Intuit Packing Slip. I have manually changed from the Intuit packing slip to my invoice, SAVED, and when i create a new invoice it defaults fo the blasted Intuit packing slip. I have also modified my custom invoice template slightly, resaved, and re-set to default with no change.
Any help appreciated. thx.

Hi there, @dorydan and @Rebound88.
Thanks for reaching out to us. I want to share information about your custom invoice template in QuickBooks Desktop.
If you use a template on an invoice and create another invoice, the regular template will display again. This setting will remain until changed with the Invoice Template drop-down.
To start with, let’s Re-sort the template list. Here’s how:
1. Click List on the top menu bar and click Templates.
2. Choose View and select Re-sort List.
3. Click OK.
Now, try saving your customized template preference again:
1. Click Customers on the top menu bar and select Create Invoices.
2. Create a new test invoice, with a standard template.
3. Select the Template drop-down menu.
4. Select one of the Intuit templates listed.
5. Enter Customer and Item details on the Invoice.
6. Select Save & Close.
You may refer to this article for additional information: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1774543.
To see if the Intuit template option is now the default selection, go to Customers and select Create Invoices. If the same invoice template displays, I’d suggest you get in touch with Customer Care Team for further assistance.
Here’s how you can reach them:
1. Go to https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop.
3. Select your QuickBooks version.
4. On the Contact Us page, click a topic.

Hello there, dorydan.
Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. I’m here to help you manage your sales template so you can effectively create transactions.
Once you create a sales transaction in QuickBooks or and you’re running in a multi-user, the software automatically recalls the last template that was used. To help you get back on track, let’s go ahead and perform these troubleshooting steps.
The Verify Data utility is used to identify common problems in a company file, while the Rebuild Data is used to resolve data corruption issues found by the Verify Data tool. Before this process begins, you’ll need to create a back up of your company file.
Next, let's begin the process of verifying and rebuilding the data. I'll walk you through the step by step process.
To rebuild the data:
To verify data:
Check out the Resolve data damage on your company file article for additional steps and information. If the issue persists after running the tool, I'd suggest contacting our Technical Support Team.
They have the tools to determine the root cause of the issue and make sure you can seamlessly create invoices. You can reach them through the following link:

Thanks. I rebuilt the data and it verified without any errors. the problem persisted.
I made the custom packing slip inactive -- then reactivated it -- and now my custom invoice stays as the default template!?!

Thank you for your prompt response. The template that is pulling up is correct. The custom field is what auto populates with the last information for that particular customer. I do not want it to do that. I want to have to choose from the drop down custom field each time.
Greetings, @droybal.
We appreciate your time posting in the Community. I'd be glad to share ideas about emailing invoices.
QuickBooks Desktop has sticky settings. Therefore, any information on the last invoice transaction you've entered will be saved. You can turn off the Auto-recall option to avoid saving previous transactions.
Let me show you how:
