custom report

using QB Desktop Accountant Enterprise

built custom summary report with column as class, row as account list and filters of payroll items and custom date range.  However, the report gives me YTD information only.  I am using this in conjunction with payroll reporting.

IE  report date 01/15/2021    salary & wages $1500    payroll liabilities $500

     report date 01/29/2021    salary & wages $3000    payroll liabilities $1000

Is there something I am missing in this report?

Glad to have you here in the Community, Wcos2015.

I'd be happy to assist you in creating your report.

To show the correct date range, you can edit your payroll report. Let me provide you the steps.

Here's how:

  1. Select Reports, then Employees and Payroll.
  2. Select Payroll Summary.
  3. Adjust the date range appropriately.

I'll also be adding these articles that can help you manage your report:

RE: However, the report gives me YTD information only.

Yes, when you create a report and use the "Account List" as the row labels, the report actually works like a balance sheet, showing the cumulative totals for each row/category. If you quickZoom on one of the column totals by double-clicking it, you'll get a Transaction by Account report and you'll see that the report is a "balance As of..." report, where each account has a starting YTD balance amount on the row with the account label:

Above, the Insurance:WorkComp account has detail before 12/14/2022 that adds up to 9,510.11, which contributes to the total of 10,234.02 YTD you seen here and on the summary report.

To make the report work as expected, choose Income Statement as the row axis.

Then the totals and the quickZoom report will show on the detail for the period:

Doing this will filter out liability account details, though they usually don't have classes in QuickBooks anyway and including them on your report if they do might be misleading/confusing in any case.
