Does anyone have American Express Business Checking? If so which one did you select to connect the account?

It's good to see you here in the Community, @csuttle-nota-rx-.

I'm here to help connect your American Express Business Checking account in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).

To ensure you select the correct checking account, you'll want to use the bank's URL when connecting it to QBSE. Here's how:

  1. Copy your bank's URL.
  2. Sign in to your QBSE account.
  3. Click the Gear icon, then select Connect bank.
  4. Select Connect another account.
  5. Paste the bank's URL, then select the AMEX account.
  6. Enter your bank's credentials.
  7. Follow the onscreen instruction to connect your checking account.

I'm adding this article for more guidance: Find your bank or credit card account when you connect to online banking.

You might want to learn more about categorizing transactions in QBSE. This will help ensure you put the transactions into the correct account.

Please post a reply below if you need further assistance connecting bank accounts in QBSE. I'll be more than happy to assist you again, @csuttle-nota-rx-.

I tried that, yet there are still 9 options that come up. Is there a way to add the account manually or do I have to input transactions in one by one manually?

Hi there, @csuttle-nota-rx-.

Thank you for coming back to QuickBooks Community and trying the steps provided by a colleague to connect your account.

Some banks have multiple names on our list. Let's try the other versions of your financial institution that are listed.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Click connect another account.
  3. In the Connect your bank or credit card to bring in your transactions field, enter your bank's name.
  4. Select the link to go to your bank's website. This opens a new window.
  5. Make sure you can access your account through this site. See if you can view your account summary, account history, and account details without any errors.
  6. If you can access everything, sign out of the financial institution's website.

If it's not supported, you can reach out to your bank to ask for support.

You can also use this link to add your transactions manually: Manually add transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

I've also added topics about maintaining your banking, transactions, and other related topics.

If you have additional questions, please place a comment below. I'd be happy to help anytime. Take care, as always!

Does anyone have American Express Business Checking? If so which one did you select to connect the account?

Also been wondering why quickbooks online still has not solved this issue in adding the Amex Business Checking.

They charge twice as much as my other budget app (YNAB) but cannot seem to add or pull the data from amex on this, while YNAB which is a lot cheaper did not have any problems pulling the data and syncing from day 1 of opening my account (amex business checking).

There is still no option to link the American Express Business Checking (debit card). Wondering if they will allow this feature soon, if not might have to cancel my subscription with QuickBooks. Let me know If anyone has some insight to this. Thanks.

Hi PacificInterlude,

I appreciate you for posting your concern on this thread.

Since you're still unable to see the American Express account you're trying to link, I'd suggest sending a request to your bank. Let me guide you with these steps:

  1. From the Gear icon, select Connect bank.
  2. Enter American Express Business Checking.
  3. Click Show more until you see Still can't find your bank?
  4. Enter your bank's URL.
  5. Click Request.

In the meantime, you can add the transactions manually. I've added this reference as your guide:  Manually add transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

You can always post again if you have concerns. Keep safe!

I'm sorry but this reply is very generic and I feel like nobody is really understanding the issue which is on Quickbooks Online's side and not AMEX's because cheaper budget apps don't have this problem pulling data sync from American Express on both Credit Cards (Business & Personal) and Business Checking.

This is clearly an issue with QBO's syncing script with AMEX.

Very Typical.  QBO still does not support American Express Business Checking.  Its American Express, not like a new remote bank or something.  With all the time Intuit puts in to creating ads to distract and sell me additional services in my QBO account, you think you would take the time to actually support real service and needs to let us do what we pay you for, which is keep our accounting and banking current.  Lets get this resolved ASAP please.   Xero Accounting is looking ever more promising as an option if Intuit keeps ignoring real necessary feature development requests from its clients.  Come on Intuit, it is time to step it up and give us premium features and support for the premium price we are paying.  Let's get this done!

Literally got off the phone with a AMEX Business Checking rep named Melissa.

She said at the moment, American Express Business Checking does not allow third-part accounting software to have access to their accounts. It's something they are meeting and discussing now. The representative also told me that the best thing I can do now to track my transactions is to download my CSV file and upload it to Quickbooks there.  After that I spoke to a Quickbooks rep and asked if this was the best option to which they replied, "It is actually the best option if there is no direct connect of the bank to Quickbooks." Then they gave me this link for assistance..
