Hi there, agentl.
Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. Let me discuss various details on how QuickBooks handles invoice payments. Then, I'll ensure you can achieve your goal by performing some alternative steps below.
If you use QuickBooks payments, there is no option in QuickBooks Online to accept bank transfers from Europe for invoice payment or through international banks (QBO). Whether using a credit card or an ACH transaction, the system will reject foreign bank information and display a zip code error. This is because QB Payments is only available in the US region.
For now, you may let your customer use PayPal or I suggest looking for supported third-party apps that allow them to pay their invoice. You can visit this page to choose the right app for receiving international payments: QuickBooks Apps. It contains the complete list of supported QBO apps to accomplish your task.
However, if you're not using the said QuickBooks payments, you can utilize the Multicurrency in QBO. This feature lets you record transactions in the foreign currencies of customers or bank accounts that don't use your home currency. This allows you to accept bank transfers from Europe for payments. Then, you can add transactions in another currency and QuickBooks handles all conversions. To start with, you'll have to turn this option in the Account and settings section.
Here's how:
Once done, I recommend creating a foreign currency account to track all of your transactions, including invoice payments. You can open this article to see the steps on how to perform the process: Set up and use multicurrency in QuickBooks Online.
Lastly, you may refer to this article to see details on how the Sales page gives you a great at-a-glance view of the status of sales transactions: View sales transactions.
Don't hesitate to click the Reply button below if you still have concerns about handling your invoice payments in QBO. I'll be here to provide further assistance and clarifications, agentl. Have a nice day.
Sign up a Wise Business account to accept payments in EUR and GBP from your clients in Europe. Then you can utilize the bank feeds to QBO.
Is this still the case--that QuickBooks payments doesn't accept international payments?
Being able to accept international payments is a great feature, alex.
As of now, QuickBooks Payments primarily focuses on processing payments within the United States. Let's integrate a third-party processor with QuickBooks Online to accept other currencies. I recommend visiting the App menu to find one. I'll show you how:
Once done, let's configure QuickBooks to record transactions in multiple currencies using the Multi-currency feature.
