To begin with, when sending a report, such as an Open Balance report, the email address from the customer profile does not automatically populate in the send window. This behavior differs from transaction forms like invoices or sales receipts, where the email field is pre-filled. That's because reports are generally designed for internal use, not customer-facing, so they don't link directly to the email addresses.
As a workaround, if you're trying to follow up on open balances, you can consider using automated payment reminders for invoices and statements.
Also, you don’t need to close the reports tab to access the email. QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) supports multiple windows, allowing you to use the Window menu to switch between the report and the customer profile without losing your customizations.
