Export my class list into MS Excel

I need to export my class list into MS Excel. I see that you can export items and Chart of accounts. but I see no way to do the same with my classes.

How do I do this. I don't want to have to type them all into excel.

Export my class list into MS Excel

Hi there, KSL83686. I'm here to provide some other ways on how you can export your class list to Excel.

Currently, there isn't a direct way of exporting your class list to MS Excel, alternatively, you can run a Custom Transaction Detail report and modify it by showing the class column.  Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Custom Reports and then choose Transaction Detail.
  3. Click Customize Report.
  4. Choose the Display Tab.
  5. Under the Column field, check the Class.
  6. Tap Ok.

See the screenshot below for your reference.

You can also view this article for more information about sorting reports by class: Filter, sort or total reports by Class

If you want the same information for future use, you can visit this article to learn how memorized reports in QBDT. This way, you do not have to go through the customization process again.

Don't hesitate to leave a comment below if you have other questions about exporting classes in reports. I'll be around to help you out. Enjoy the rest of the day!

Export my class list into MS Excel

You've reached the right place for help, KSL83686.

Exporting the list from QuickBooks will create an .IIF file that you can open on Notepad or Excel. Export the major lists (Items, Customers, Vendors) one at a time to prevent issues caused by exporting very long lists.

  1. From the QuickBooks File menu, select Utilities > Export > Lists to IIF Files.
  2. Select the list you want to export and click OK.
  3. Browse the location where you want to save your file and click Save.

You can export reports, general journal entries, and customer and vendor lists. However, you can pull up the class list report and export it to Excel. open QuickBooks and export a report:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and open any report on the list.
  2. Select the Excel button. All export options, including Excel, should be available.

Learn how to import or export info with QuickBooks Desktop. check this article: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Drop me a line if you meant something different, or if you have additional questions about the process. You can also post back here in the Community for any concerns you have in the future.

Thank you for the reply.  I have QB 2021 Desktop Accountant for PC.  I know how to export a report into excel. What I need is my list of classes exported to excel, csv, etc.... When I open the list I see no option to export the list to excel. Only create a Quick Report or Reports on classes.

Export my class list into MS Excel

Years ago there was a hot-key combination, including one of the F-keys, which instantly exported any list or tabular data which was currently active on screen into an Excel spreadsheet.  I cannot remember what the combination of keys is at the moment.  Perhaps it's no longer available.  It was an extremely helpful tool, so I can't imagine why it went away. Does anyone know?

One of the best applications was when in a complicated, large reconciliation screen.  You could export the deposits and checks/debits into Excel without affecting anything in QuickBooks (desktop.)  This made calculations much easier.
