I have a new accounting firm who wants me to send my QuickBooks file. I am a sole proprietor, so I am tracking my business and personal information in the same file, with business expenses under Schedule C income and expense subaccounts on the P&L. They are pushing for me to send only the business portion of my QuickBooks file with metadata and insist there is a way to do this. Every suggestion they have made still gives them my personal transactions. If I delete the personal information from a restored backup, it shows on the audit trail. If I create a condensed file, I believe I have an option to turn off the audit trail, but the closing entries will still be there. I have been using QuickkBooks for 20 years and am quite proficient. I've sent the GL report of my business transactions (BS & PL) and Excel files in a format for them to import the transactions, per QB instructions. They still want the QB file and are insisting it can be done, but can't tell me how to do it. I've checked forums and QB support and can see no way to give them only the business portion of my QuickBooks file. The responses to these types of questions say it can't be done. Am I wrong? Is there a workaround for this?
Hi there, @ESmith2.
What you did is correct. The only option to send them your QuickBook files without your personal transactions is by exporting them through Excel.
However, you can look for a third-party app to perform this action. Here's the link where you can search for it: https://desktop.apps.com/home.
In addition, you can check our Firm of the Future link. This is where you can check out our latest features offered and product improvements in QuickBooks.
