Extremely difficult to use pay contractor and payroll on the iPhone app. It needs to be optimized for smart phone. You cannot see the actual contractor names! Anyone??

Can anyone suggest how to easily use the pay contractor function on an iPhone? It is not set up well for smart phone. Can’t see the name of the contractors. Just shows things like whether they’re set up for direct deposit, etc., but not their names.

Quickbooks really needs to optimize this.

You can signup for a separate Melio account for free to sync with QBO as a workaround. With their mobile app, you can easily make and track payments from anywhere. pay contractors in seconds and approve or check the status of any payment - all from your iPhone.

Another perk, you can get $100 as cashback to pay your first bill with credit card.

Hello there, @StephejoATL. I want to share a few pieces of information about paying your contractors using your iPhone application.

When you log in to your QuickBooks Online company through the app, only the names of employees are shown. This is why you cannot see the names of contractors displayed on it.

Alternatively, you can access your QBO account using the web browser on your mobile device. Once logged in, you can conveniently make payments to your contractors either via checks or direct deposit. Let me walk you through the procedures assuming you've already set up your contractors in QBO.

For the direct deposit process, you'll need to first add your company's bank details and your contractor's direct deposit info. Once done, follow these to pay them:

  1. Open the Expenses menu, then go to Contractors.
  2. Click on Pay contractors.
  3. Double-check the Bank account you'll be paying from, and set the Pay date.
  4. Find and pick the contractor(s) you'd like to pay.
  5. In the Pay method, select Direct deposit.
  6. From the Account ▼ dropdown, choose the expense category you use to track contractor payments. Note: If you're not sure what to pick, check with your accountant.
  7. Enter the amount, description, and any other necessary payment info.
  8. Hit Preview contractor pay.
  9. Tap Submit contractor pay.
  10. Tick Done.

For paper checks on the other hand, make sure to first set up your printing preferences. Then, you can issue payment to your contractors using them.

  1. Go to Payroll and choose Contractors.
  2. Hit the dropdown next to the contractor's name and then Write check.
  3. From the Bank account ▼ dropdown, pick the account the check withdraws money from.
  4. Complete the check fields you need.
  5. Select the Print check option if you want to open the check queue to print now. Or tick the Print later checkbox if you want to print the check later.
  6. Click Save and close to close the check window. Or Save and new if you need to create another check. Note: If you prefer a save option, this adds the check to your bank register, but only sends it to the print queue if you select Print later.

Logged into the iPhone web browser access. The names of the contractors are still not visible, even when I turn my phone sideways.  This solution is not correct.  QB app needs work for this function.

Hi StephejoATL,

Thank you for adding a screenshot. I've gone through the thread, and I can see the inconvenience of not being able to see the contractor's name on your phone.

While the option to view their names is unavailable on the mobile, I suggest sharing this product feature with our developer's team. They'll collate ideas from other customers about the efficiency of your suggestion. Here's how to send your ideas:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Under PROFILE, select Feedback.
  3. Type in a few words of your proposition.
  4. Click Next.

As a workaround, you'll have to log into a computer desktop to see and pay your contractors. You can use this link to log in to your account: QuickBooks Online login page.
